Why I Can't Stand Freepers (cowards)
I live on a dead end street with about fifteen houses on it. My wife and I are the only couple in our 20's with the rest of the people being in their 50's at least. Everyone has been super nice to use for the 5 years we've been here and I walk the street almost every day chatting with neighbors while walking the dog.

After putting out my Obama sign, I noticed the idle shit-chat sessions seemed to cease. I saw my neighbor who lives across the street at a local diner and when I asked him how he had been doing his reply was "where the hell did you get that sign?" I smiled and he then said, "I had a talk with your boss about that sign." Without going into too much detail, I work for an elected official (a republican).

When I went back to work, sure enough I hear this from the Big Boss, "I heard you got an Obama sign in your yard." At this point, I'm getting a little scared...does this seem a bit fascist to anyone else? So I tell him it's my sign and I will be voting for Obama next month. Then I have to hear all the usual talking points (terrorist, socialist, etc.) knowing what they really want to say is "nigger." I can see it on the faces of my coworkers.

Today I go outside to walk the dog and there is a McCain sign on the edge of my property by the woods. There is no other signs on the entire street and I don't think the land owner put it there. Unfortunately, it was actually about a foot on my side so it's now POW in my basement. I'm just so tired of the bullshit and if this affects my job, I will fight. I lost a lot of respect for a lot of people over this shit.

Don't talk to me, smirk all you want...fucking cowards.

2. I have two friends in Colorado
who live in a subdivision in a little town not too far from Boulder (but far enough). Theirs is the only Obama sign. They put it up first, and almost instantly, every other yard had a McPalin sign. Theirs remains the only one on the whole street.

Hang in there. Fuckem.

34. Update. The McNazis struck!
"Just found my Obama yard sign torn out of the ground and crumpled in the driveway. This happened in broad daylight while I was inside eating lunch. Jesus, things really are going to get ugly, aren't they?"

"Right now I've got it taped together and put on the metal stand I kept from the Kerry/Edwards sign we had four years ago. He's standing tall and proud in the front yard again, but who knows how long it will last. I feel like crying. (Spouse) is out of town until Thursday night and this is making my skin crawl."

Get another job when and if you can.

Fuck 'em. Tell em to go fuck themselves on the way out the door. THey won't give you a good reference anyways.

Come to NOVA. We "commie country" to these fuckbags. We live better too. My street is almost nothing but Obama signs (about 7 to one in my hood.)

and to your neighbor who "told the boss": How fucking dare he tell you threaten you and your family by endangering your employment status based on his goosestepping ways.

I love my job, and most of the people are good, just typical for this area. I don't have to see them much anyway. But if I lose a promotion over this shit...it's gonna hit the fan.

If everyone of them had a McCain sign outside, I'd still talk to them and even discuss politics civilly with them. But they can't, that's the difference. Too much hate in them...they are truly scared to death. Pathetic.

15. my civics teacher always replied that he voted for the secret ballot
I probably would have taken the fifth with a Republican boss. I guess my department head is a Republican, but she's not an elected official, and as a government worker, presumably we have rules and also members of both parties working there.

Freepers are not the only ones who get a little heated about politics. You felt like you had a right (duty?) to steal a yard sign too.

24. Here's what you do
If you have a union, contact your union rep immediately and inform him/her of what happened.

If you don't, write down the conversation you had with your boss to the best of your ability -- in excruciating detail. Have it notarized.

Then, if you are denied a promotion, you have a notarized, dated account of what happened. It's not proof positive of anything, but really goes a long way if you end up in front of a judge -- it just makes you look like you're done due diligence while your boss is standing there making shit up.

Been there -- done that.

28. The Bush era opened my eyes. A sad disappointment in America.
There are far far too many idiots. And I feel for you. You're brave to speak up honestly without hemming and hawing. Good for you.

We're largely an uneducated country. I am speaking off the top of my head. And I would love to be wrong. But Fox continues to broadcast. If that's not testament to viewers, I don't know what is. Millions of braindead in America. It can change. But like you said, they're fighting us. Idiot bullies. Which often translates to cowards.

Hey, I'm a coward. I just don't push myself on people. I leave people alone. But when they come after me, I run. That's why I'm on this forum. To learn how to fight. And to learn what to fight for.

30. This is part of the courage it takes for us
And that includes the strength and the courage not to return violence for violence, as tempting as that is. Although had my Big Boss asked about a political sign in my yard, I'd be sorely tempted not to say, "Well, it's still a semi-free country, despite the best efforts of the Bush administration."

Stay strong, keep up the fight. You're right, they're wrong, this is not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact.

38. And the sign said,
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply."
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why.
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young man.
I think you'll do."
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that.
huh , me workin' for you."

Whoa, sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scen'ry.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?

And the sign said,
"Anybody caught trespassin'
Will be shot on sight."
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,
"Hey! What gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out,
But to keep Mother Nature in?
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face,
'Man, you're some kind of sinner.'"

Sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scenery.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?

Now, hey you, Mister, can't you read?
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat.
You can't even watch. No, you can't eat.
You ain't supposed to be here.
The sign said, "You've got to have a membership card
To get inside." Uh.

And the sign said, "Everybody welcome.
Come in. Kneel down and pray."
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper
And I made up my own little sign.
I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me.
I'm alive and doin' fine."

Whoo! Sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scenery.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?

Sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Sign, sign.

Stay strong, and as much as I hate to say it, polish up that resume and document everything, you might find yourself on the wrong end of right-wing retaliation when he wins.
