Bwhahaha! Self-inflicted Wound Puts Bachmann in Jeopardy
Self-inflicted Wound Puts Bachmann in Jeopardy
By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff

If Rep. Michele Bachmann limps to the finish line on Election Day — either ahead or behind — it is because she shot herself in the foot.

The freshman Republican from Minnesota’s 6th District is suddenly in danger of losing her seat after she questioned whether Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama harbors “anti-American views” and called for an investigation into whether members of Congress are “pro-America or anti-America” in an interview last Friday on MSNBC’s program “Hardball.”

Bachmann’s remarks infuriated Democrats and turned the campaign of her opponent, Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, into an overnight cause celebre.

Tinklenberg, a former state Transportation secretary, had collected more than $810,000 between Friday night and Monday afternoon, after raising $1 million for the entire election cycle through the end of September.

“It’s hard to give a completely accurate number because the money keeps rolling in,” said Tinklenberg spokeswoman Kate Monson.

“We’re in the middle of a political earthquake here,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar , a Minnesota Democrat, said on Hardball Monday evening.

CQ Politics is moving its rating of the contest from Republican Favored to Leans Republican, a more competitive category.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - A Sartell man plans another challenge to U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann — this time as a write-in candidate.

Republican Aubrey Immelman says he decided to resurrect his campaign after Bachmann said on the MSNBC program "Hardball" that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama "may have anti-American views."

Immelman lost to Bachmann in the Republican primary in September. He says the one thing he will not do is ask Democrats to vote for him. He says he wants his candidacy to be a Republican referendum on Bachmann and the direction the party has taken the country.

5. I'm so glad I donated
I've heard Tinklenberg called a Blue Dog, don't know if that's true (I despise Blue Dogs perhaps more than straight-out republicans), but even if it is, I won't ever regret donating to him. After reading an account of their debate last week, he sounds very sane and reasonable next to that batshit crazy jebus-freak.

21. I'm glad she did
Watching those contributions grow over the weekend was fall down funny and very inspiring.
I don't think the Michele Bachmann's of the right understand that their moment of insanity is over. No one is afraid of Rethugs and their brand has been kicked on the sidewalks of infamy.

7. Now start using some of that money and change that rating
from leans Republican to Solid Democratic. I hope they capture a portion of her saying members of Congress need to be investigated to see if they are American enough for her...It seemed to work for the short term anyway. I think even many Republicans would find it despicable..

15. Someone else who believed the over-the-top rhetoric
The GOP uses over-the-top rhetoric to excite the base. The biggest danger is that someone not realize that it's just rhetoric -- just political theater -- and starts to act on it.

For example, the shriek about family values -- except when they're visiting their whores, cheating on their wives, taking their same-sex partner out for dinner, or eyeing the Congressional pages.

They pander to the Christian right, but don't have a religious bone in their body. However, some of the followers don't get the message and start to truly believe.

Backman is one example. Palin is another.

It's odd how they all seem to suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.

It must be some genetic deficiency rethuglicans are prone to.
