1. something about criticizing genetic research done with fruit flies... guess she doesn't believe in
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 10:10 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
genetics or biology or science... something to do with autism research from a special needs kid speech she gave today. I guess now every mom who had a special needs kid is an instant authority on what's best for them :eyes:

2. she said in speech today

3. Research has been done with fruit flies
regarding a gene for autism. She kind of stuck her foot in her mouth talking about "special needs" kids, autism and so on and then ridiculing research on fruit flies. She's really quite clueless.

5. She dismissed fruit fly research at her speech on special needs kids today...
as kind frivolous research. Except that she had no idea that the research with the fruit flies actually is helping scientists better understand autism.

that's the gist, anyway.

9. She dismissed all research involving fruit flies as frivolous
thus proving she's a fucking idiot on a multitude of subjects.

Fruit fly research has recently turned up an important clue about autism, for one thing. For another, it's one of those basic scientific models for studying genetic changes over time.

She needs to be sent back to Moose Bladder in total disgrace.

11. There are many, many studies done using fruit flies.
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 10:33 PM by lizzy
This is just one example.
"A Queen's University study of fruit flies that may revolutionize the way birth defects are studied has identified the genes affected by a widely prescribed drug known to cause birth defects."

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/11/051122093217.htm
And what about this one?
"ScienceDaily (May 5, 2003) — HANOVER, NH – Dartmouth researchers have determined that the fruit fly Drosophila can be used for further study about why more mistakes occur during cell division as eggs become older. In humans, such errors can give rise to Down syndrome, a genetic disorder where people have one extra chromosome."
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/05/030505084219.htm

Does Palin have a clue that fruit flies can be used to improve our understanding of genetic diseases in humans?
My guess would be NO, based on her laughing "i kid you not" about fruit fly research.
