9. I'm surprised
I'm actually really surprised that the Economist would feature Obama like that. I'll have to read the thing to see what it's about.

BTW love the Bubbles kitties.

12. Translation (from Economist's Neoconspeak): It's Time For The Scapegoat To Blame Bush's Mess On
Who better at this time? Than a black "socialist" to blame the whole UPCOMING timebomb upon?

13. Actually, I did a thing for a political science class
we got 5 'news' magazines, The New Republic, The Nation, The Economist, The American Conservative, and The Weekly Standard (blech). We read them for months, comparing articles and such, and while the Economist leaned right, overall I felt it to be a very informative, even handed mag. Also, the American Conservative was surprisingly good (old school conservative, waivered on social issues, called into question a lot of conservative policies, and clearly stated all of its sources).

14. Actually, The Economist isn't too bad.
They tend to support free-market principles, but are quite moderate or even slightly left-leaning with regard to social issues, science, religion, and other similar non-economic topics. And they write with a very neutral tone.

I think I would characterize the general tone of the magazine as mildly libertarian (with a small l). It doesn't surprise me at all that they featured Obama on the cover.

7. Damn! He looks so presidential!
For all the photos taken of him, you never see one where he looks goofy or mean or anything less than presidential.

I will be so glad to never have to see that petulant fucking oaf that's in office right now. Although he did provide some good yucks with his weird expressions & falling-down-drunk antics, good riddance!

I am so ready for this!!! Yes, it's time!!

10. It's an actual endorsement
That is unbelievable, I just read (quickly mind you) the article and this RW economic magazine just endorsed Barack Obama for President. It wasn't a full throated screaming endorsement but it was an endorsement. That's just got to piss off the tools running the McLame campaign something bad.

11. They endorsed Kerry in 2004
so it's not *that* unbelievable.

Too many DUers consider The Economist to be a "right-wing rag". While it is economically conservative (pro free-trade, competition and low taxes) it is socially liberal (strongly pro-gay marriage) and does not hesitate to slam the Bush administration for their disastrous foreign policy (it has urged Guantanomo to be closed, torture to be ended, and was vociferous in calling for Rumsfeld to resign as soon as the Abu Ghraib atrocity came to light).
