Uhm, possibly weird question, but, has anyone had their polling place moved...
while they still lived in the same address since the last election?

I ask, because, in the 12 years since I was old enough to vote, I always voted in the same location, Monroe Public Elementary School. The only change would be whether I would go into the library or the gym depending on which voting booths were available. There was, at most, a 30 minute wait, and the school was more than equipped to deal with the voters, the gym was large, and the library, just recently, was expanded, so even it could handle more voters. I know the gym itself had several voting booths in it, and the school even stayed open during the vote in the daytime, the kids just didn't have PE and were restricted in the library.

Oddly enough, I went to this same elementary school when I was a kid, and I remember voting days since I was about 6 years old, in this same location.

But this year is different, apparently they must have redrawn the lines, and while we have had a population explosion over the past 6 years or so in this county, in 2006, I still voted at the school and, as far as I can tell, there were no problems, a small line, but then again, it was a mid-term election.

This year, in a little less than a week, I'll be voting in a church I'm not familiar with, we have only one mega church in the area, way out in O'Fallon, and most churches are rather small in this area. I worry about how long the lines are going to be, and how long it will take to vote. A part of me is nervous because I never voted in a church before, I feel like somehow that is wrong.

I just don't know of any church in this area that would be equipped to deal with voters, especially if the turnout this time around is much greater than the last few election cycles. I'm going to go in early, before I have to go to work, but I hope the wait isn't too long.

1. yup, the repukes here did that too
they want to confuse people on Tuesday and hope to discourage them from voting. Make sure to tell you neighbors about it, possible some of them missed the change.

7. My county is dominated by Republicans, 66% of the electorate here...
vote Republican on a regular basis, and the county government is dominated by them as well.

2. Had mine moved
in 2004 because the elementary school that I normally voted at was doing construction, but it's since returned there.

Perhaps there's some issue like that with your regular spot this cycle?

4. Not that I'm aware of, the school was expanded starting in the summer of 2006...
and ending at the end of the summer. Indeed, I was able to admire the new library when I voted there that year, and contrasted it with my childhood memories. Right now there is no construction going on at the school.

3. Mine was moved in 06
It had been in the same school for at least 30 years. I have no idea why it was moved but it bummed me out as it was within walking distance for me and now it is not.

5. I read in the news that some polling places had to be split into...
different locations because there is such an increase in registered voters, so the voting process will move smoothly.

6. It would hurt Republicans, no?
New voters don't have a spot they usually go to = new voters are for Obama.

Older voters = McCain's base, they will go home if they can't find their "usual" polling location.

Am I right? lol

9. Not a problem here.Every year we're reminded to check our County flyer for our current polling place
Sometimes the old place isn't available for one reason or another. Sometimes precinct lines may be redrawn. Usually I go to the Lutheran Church, but some years it's over at the Methodist Church a mile and a half away. I just check when I'm filling out my sample ballot.

10. EVERY ELECTION I make sure I look on the sample ballot/voter
information pamphlet for my polling location. I NEVER assume it's in the same place as the last time. This is Los Angeles, after all. Businesses close, senior center rules change, homeowners who let their garage be used move away. Currently the nearby rehab/senior care place has been my polling place three elections running, but when I live a mile from here the location was literally a different business every single election.

12. They moved mine for the local elections in Oct.
From the huge Armory on the main drag, across the street is one of the poorer black neighborhoods,
to a community club house 3 miles away, which is on the golf course.
They said it was because there some big thing planned at the Armory that could not be changed.

Hmmmmm....
