One of the lamest arguments ever made to "stay the course"
A freeper type at work actually said the following to me today. He asked me if I had a house or a place to live. I said,"Yes, of course." Then he asked me if I had a decent car. "Yes." "Do you have a job?" "Well since we are here at our job, you know damn well I have do." He says, "See? everything is good."
I said that I've had a job, car, and place to live on my own since the '70's because that's the way things were and are with Democrats. We can take care of ourselves, but helping the less fortunate is a good thing as well.
His reply? "Tell them to get a job!" I was getting irritated, but somehow managed to say, "Maybe there are no Goddam jobs out there for everybody" I then walked away because I had to actually do some work and because I was getting totally frustrated talking to a dumbass. As I have stated earlier, I am predjudice against stupidity. Not ignorance, just blatant stupidity. Please note that this is the same guy who told me that they found WMD's in Iraq. At that time I asked him if it was a shovel which could go upside someone's head. He missed the meaning of my statement, fortunately. I have to stop talking to these people.

1. I have found that the older I get, the less tolerance I have for stupidity.
I just do not want to waste my time with that kind of person when I could spend time with people I like.

2. Never argue with an idiot.
He'll just drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

6. That made me think of this quote...
Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.

3. I have a feeling he might have said the same to
a guy living in a cardboard refrigerator box under a major bridge someplace..."Look...you have someplace to LIVE!!!"

And to somebody who collects cans and goes dumpster shopping ..."HEY...you have a JOB!!!! And some pretty nice looking week-old produce there too!"

they just don't get it, you know?

better that you just walked away and spared yourself the misery

5. A local aluminum plant here is cutting production by 33%. The
worldwide market for their product is down, aka the global recession.

Yeah, there are some jobs out there in the "service economy" we have. People make $6.50 an hour with no benefits. Not much help there.

It's pretty sickening for someone like your coworker to rationalize his political stance like that. Remind hem that Christ didn't yell at the poor and sick to "get a job".
