Neighbor in NY with voting problem
She works 12 hrs a day. Wants to get there 6 am, afraid of long lines. Doesn't have time to kill. Why doesn't NY have early voting? I gotta get on it and bug whoever makes these decisions to change that. Must do it before 2012. I bet lots of NYers are having this same sort of problem. And why isn't Election Day a national holiday? Of all the dumb holidays people get off this is an important day. Give people time to vote. I wonder what # of people stay away Tuesday cause of fear of lines? I know we're true Blue in NY but still, lots of people have been looking forward to voting for Obama for a long time. We'd hate to miss out on the Big Day!

8. Yes, me too, but this is no ordinary presidential election!
I voted in Putnam County in 2004 and it took me about 20 minutes.

4. Another thing to consider...
if she gets there in the evening before the polls close and she is in line, they're legally bound to let her get to vote. Not the easiest or quickest way perhaps but if she runs out of time in the morning, that's one possibility.

5. State by State Election Day Employer Requirements
http://www.complianceposter.com/state-voting-laws.aspx

NY requires employers to allow employees time off to vote as long as they give a minimum of 2 days notice.

6. NY doesn't have early voting for the same reason the budget is always late.
The legislature can't get together to agree to vote on ANYTHING.

7. Polls are open from 6am to 9pm
I've never had a problem with voting lines in any election. We use lever voting booths so we don't have the same issues as those states with electronic/computerized voting machines.
