2008: "Low gas price is the opiate of the people." .. Karl Rove (OK, maybe Rove didn't really say that, but you know what I mean)
1928: "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage." .. Herbert Hoover
2008: "A full-tank in every SUV and two gas-guzzlers in every garage." George W. Bu$h (again, literary license)
$2.06/gal today at Costco in Greenville, SC! Happy Days are here again! DemoTex is voting GOP!
(Pure-T, dripping :sarcasm: for those who seem to take everything so seriously nowadays.)

6. It's a small thing, but why do so many Americans translate it as 'opiate', not 'opium'? |
|
The original German is "das Opium des Volkes". http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/300700.html

7. "Opiate" as an addiction or "opiate" as providing pain relief? |
|
I always kinda mulled that thought over because you can take it either way.
In your context, Demotex, that ambiguity is gone. It hurts like hell to go fill'er'up, but it IS rather like a mainline of some intoxicating substance.
