5. Yes, that is a totally crappy site.
Doing tech support I sometimes find it best to take control of a client's computer. Once in a while I have a client that has Drudge shortcuts all over the place, and it's all I can do to refrain from putting them through a FFR (fdisk, format and reinstall).
