The lack of logic in the "spread the wealth" argument.
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 10:44 AM by kentuck
Can wealth only be spread in one direction - from the top to the bottom? How does it get to the top in the first place? If the average person lost over $2000 dollars in the last eight years, where did it go? If the top 1% own 40% of all the wealth in this country, how did all that wealth get in their hands? Did they just wake up one morning and find it under their Christmas tree or under their pillow?

Why do some think it is OK to "spread the wealth" to the very wealthiest Americans but it is not OK for the middle and working class to get more of that wealth, even though it is their labor that created all the wealth? Why do they make the argument that it is the entrepreneur that takes the gamble so, therefore, he is entitled to take as much as he can from the labor of others? Do not these folks that labor take a gamble also? With their lives and with their health everyday? Or is it that their gamble is less than the entrepreneur, so therefore, he is irrelevant?

Do these folks create jobs because they have more money to invest or do they create jobs because they want more money to invest? There has been a massive transfer of wealth from all Americans to the very top over the last 8 years and beyond and what do we see as the result? Jobs have not been created. Many companies decided to invest overseas, with cheap labor and no regulations. Bill Clinton's economy created about 22 million jobs and George W Bush's economy created about 6 million jobs. How do we explain this discrepancy if the wealthy were paying more under Clinton?

This lack of logic can mostly be blamed on ignorance. People still believe that if we can give the wealthy just one more tax cut, then it will all trickle down with new jobs and opportunities for us all. The only problem is that it has not worked. Why do people continue to vote against their own interests? When John McCain says, Barack Obama wants to raise your taxes, what he is really saying is that Barack Obama wants to raise Cindy's taxes. And folks that travel in the same private jet atmosphere as Cindy McCain. Let us all die working to save these folks from paying one more penny in taxes. After all, someday we may all be in their shoes.
