Boy, 12, shot dead while trick-or-treating

SUMTER, S.C. - A 12-year-old boy trick-or-treating with his family in central South Carolina was shot from inside a home Friday and killed, and his father and brother were wounded by the gunfire, authorities said.

I knew one of those nuts, he lived in a 12' x 60' mobile home, had 2 kids ages 12 and 13 single parent, his bed room had 16 rifles, 5 shotguns, 7 break down .22's and he had 1,200 rounds of ammo for each weapon, non of the guns were locked or had trigger locks on them all were loaded. This was 1995 and he was getting ready for the race war of 2000 when america's computers came crashing down so when that happened his family would be safe. :crazy:

have a masters degree wife has done post doc work. Live in a nice house, drive german cars (i drive an old ass 240d) and own firearms.

Shop at whole foods and am progressive here and in real life.

I do not own "assault rifles" because I do not want one. I have carried and fired the real thing while in the NG. I would buy a sub machine gun for fun if they did not cost 12,000.

I do own handguns, several shotguns (you dont carry expensive italian shotguns in the rain), and various rifles.

I own them because I want to.

What some asshole does should not impact my right to own firearms anymore than what drunks do behind the wheel.

11. Like I said I am not against the right to have guns, I just think that

not everyone should have them. After all, you do have to take drivers ed and take a driving test to get to drive a car don't you? Btw, drunk drivers and bad drivers do effect you if you realize it or not, think safety laws and insurance costs. I really don't know what the answer is as I have known friends that were very gun safe until they got their permits to carry side arms, 5 of them were jailed for pulling their side arms on neighbors because of a parking dispute or the neighbors were playing loud music. Needless to say they now can not own firearms nor can the carry side arms lol.

Btw, I also had a friend that killed his dad while bow hunting, so I realize that no guns won't stop a thing and I know people that are felons that have guns, reality is humans are really nuts at times.

how many handguns I own? That is the basic problem.

Do you drive a kia spectra or live in the cheapest housing available, no, then you choose to spend money on something you WANT.

There is NO NEED for BMW3 series, no need for plasma tvs, or replica race bikes (which kill more marines than combat), or most of the things we own.

I do not have a NEED to buy organic food. I choose to.

To answer you question, I own 2 handguns that can be concealed legally by myself or my wife, and one I had before I got a ccw.

pair of Sig p228s and an old p226. Nice italian over under shotgun, semi auto shotgun to take out in the rain or when I dont take the nice one.. Rifles for target shooting (could be called a sniper rifle by politically motivated doofuses) Custom rifles built from mauser actions firing 22-250 and 308. Those cost a fortune, the optics cost more than my old car is worth. Spend time reloading to get rifles to shoot accurately. I enjoy doing this.

Hunting rifle was a gift. Hunt on rare occasion mostly upland game birds.

And a very nice safe to secure them all in. Bolted to the slab of my house.

I am a responsible owner, but more of a real safety issue, I do NOT talk on a cell in my car, text, read email, or get drunk and drive. Dont have a swimming pool, and dont leave 5 gallon buckets around for kids to drown in.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but that phrase just struck me. One of the reasons I don't have a gun is I would have to have it locked up somewhere no one could get at it. there have been cases where vehicles were stolen with weapons. Generally suburbans, generally machine guns. Not assault rifle replicas. M4s or mp5s.

Most people will not crack a safe for a hunting rifle, or any forearm for that matter.

The kid was "trespassing." I really, really wish I were being sarcastic, but there's a surprising number of people who believe they are within their rights to murder anyone that they see on their property at any time for any reason. In some states and counties, this is actually on hte books as being legal. And these people relish the idea of having a reason to blow someone away.

Sumter - A shooting in Sumter has left a 12-year-old child dead and two other people injured.

Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson says a father and his four children were trick-or-treating Friday night when the shooting occurred.

The family had just finished trick-or-treating at a city of Sumter sponsored event, when they decided to make a couple of stops in their neighborhood. Chief Patterson says the family stopped at the home on Wise Drive around 8:30 p.m., where the porch light was on, while their mother waited nearby in a vehicle.

As the family was at the door, they thought they heard fireworks. The 12-year-old boy, his father and brother all were hit by the gunfire. The boy died at a hospital, Coroner Verna Moore said. The other two children were not hurt.

The shooting suspect, Quentin Patrick, was in custody, a jail official from the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center said. Patrick, 22, has been charged with murder and three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill. The jail official also said Patrick most likely will not appear in front of a judge until Sunday.

Police offered no motive and said it did not appear the family knew the people in the house, which is off a busy, two-lane road in Sumter, a city of about 40,000 people 45 miles east of Columbia. On Saturday, shattered glass still covered the front stoop and about 20 bullet holes peppered the front door and a front-window casement.

A 22-year-old man was charged with murder but it wasn't clear how — or if — he was connected to the family.

Quentin Patrick, 22, has been charged with murder and three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill. The home where the shooting happened was not listed as his address and it wasn't clear why he was there.

Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson said there were other people inside during the shooting, but she didn't expect them to be charged.

There was no answer Saturday morning at the mobile home police listed as Patrick's address, although neighbor Larry Sigler said he thought Patrick's mother lived there.

I seldom comment on them anymore. What is the use? Every time I hear of someone being shot like this (or another dead soldier needlessly sacrificed in this insane and criminal war) it grieves me and makes me angry. Such a waste! What the hell is wrong with people? And TWENTY bullet holes in the door and window casing?? What was this, a machine gun or automatic rifle? I just want to curl up into a fetal position, pull the covers over my head and cry. Oh, and I live in Oakland California and not in one of the "better" neighborhoods. Look at the list below. Not all were homicides or even involved victims but they are all discharging of weapons by citizens. This is insane! And it is only one medium sized city.
