Magic Johnson Urges Voters to Vote NO on Proposition 8 Joins Steve Young Family in Calling for Defeat

Magic Johnson, enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame after winning five NBA championships as a Los Angeles Laker, and three Most Valuable Player awards, has lent his voice to the chorus of those calling Proposition 8 wrong and unfair.

Johnson's efforts to defeat Prop 8 occurred as the family of Steve Young announced their opposition. Barbara Young made it clear last night that they will vote NO on 8.

Steve Young, the legendary former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers was MVP of Super Bowl XXIX, MVP of the NFL in 1992 and 1994, and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

And in a recorded telephone call to California voters, Johnson says:

3. He's not only a Mormon, but he's related to Brigham Young!

It's too bad he's so filled with hate.

I guess he's really trying to tell everyone hate is a Mormon virtue.

(EDITED TO) fix title for spelling and add this link to famous descendants of Brigham Young (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigham_Young#Notable_descendants)

People automatically assumed Steve Young was conservative because of his Mormon background...

13. Well, when was the last time a high profile Mormon broke with the church in public?

He and his wife deserve a lot of credit for having the integrity and the strength to do that. :)

2. We've all voted NO on Prop 8 here in my group. The polls are showing...
... a tight race, according to CNN, when just days ago it seemed as if Prop 8 was beating NO on Prop 8. Dare we hope California will smash this unconstitutional bill that seeks to amend the California Constitution to take rights away?

Even Aaahhnold is against it. Yeah, that surprised me too but then again he did say he didn't support changing the California Constitution with regard to same-sex marriage. I guess he meant it.

Barack Obama is against Prop 8 too.

I was also surprised that my normally conservative Senator, Dianne Feinstein, appeared in one of No on Prop 8 ads televised on our local networks.

Once people understand this isn't about same-sex marriage but equal rights under our Constitution, they don't appear to like Prop 8 in the least. I mean, isn't our Constitution supposed to protect our rights, not take them away?

6. The ads that have pointed out the discrimination part of the Prop ...
... have been the most effective, IMO.

8. Oh my! What a powerful ad by "No on Prop 8" featuring Obama, Schwarzenegger...
... Dianne Feinstein was just on CNN, hammering in on the fact Prop 8 isn't about marriage, it's about discrimination!

This is GOOD news - Wooo-hooooooo!!
