1. If it was more implied to be Obama
you could have stood nearby and used your cell to call 411 and ask for the Secret Service line

3. Not a very progressive response.....
....but the shirt is in extraordinarily poor taste, at best.

Frankly I hate most shirts that try to be clever, witty, whatever.

5. I'll show you progressive
I would progress to the coward's table and demand the shirt be turned inside out or we would progress to fight.
I would progress to lay down a beating on the sissy and would likely progress to jail. Happily. Progressive doesn't mean submissive.

6. Plenty of things worth fighting for....
....that ain't one of them. I left that kind of thing behind in high school. Not that I don't agree the shirt is shockingly and appallingly ridiculous. Your message would lose some of it's verve though.

7. Right wingers do not understand nuance
only black and white, or in this case black and blue. Sorry if I seem a little edgy today.

11. Part of nuance is....
...not a blanket statement like that. Don't get me wrong, I understand and sympathize. But part of being an adult is consequences. Earlier this summer a young man punched a 60 year old man who fell and died. Hello felony (in this case another felony). To me, my right to vote, own and carry guns, get good jobs, serve functions in schools far outweighs the momentary joy of beating someone who deserved it. It's tasteless, but the shirt's not illegal and poor taste is still a 1st amendment issue.

8. Incorrect.
In the right circumstances, I would challenge this guy. I'm not saying it would necessarily lead to a fight, but I would challenge him.

If this is not worth fighting for, than what is?

Welcome to DU.

15. You're welcome...and to be clear...
I'm not saying I would go up and start whaling on the guy because of his shirt. I'm not some violent idiot. But I think a comment to him would be warranted.

If he chose to take it further...that would be his problem because:

He would have to make the first move. he would then either beat the shit out of me or end up getting his ass kicked himself. Either way, he's going to jail.

Probably the best suggestion, as others have noted, is to call the secret service.

I've never been a shrinking violet when it comes to dealing with things that offend me LOL.

I hope you enjoy your stay here. :)

16. Problem with stuff like that-
when the cops show up, no matter who threw the first punch, you both go to jail and they sort it out there. That's the way they do it in Ca. Trust me, I know from experience. Not that going to jail is always a bad thing as I've done it many times as a protester.

But yeah, I hear you, I'd want to school him too.

18. Circumstances...
I would be so compelled to say something to the guy, belittle him, etc.

If he swung on me and there were people around, I'd probably turtle, let him hit me, then prosecute his dumb ass for assault.

20. True, but never the less, you would go to jail.
A couple of years ago I got into a fender bender in a parking lot. Long story short, I ended up fighting two guys that were in the other car. Someone called the cops and by the time they got there I pretty much had things in hand and the guy even came out from the store and said they had thrown the first punches, but the cop, not being one for paperwork obviously, called it an affray and said if anyone wanted to press charges we had to all go to jail. I think it really surprised and annoyed him when I said fine, let's all go to jail. (I'm in my forties and these two idiots were in their twenties) Went to jail, traded charges, made bail then sued them when I got out.

They didn't show, and I won, but I still had to waste a day in jail.

10. Report him to the Secret Service.
And they cant really call Obama a celebrity when Sarah Shit For Brains has been featured on the cover of Newsweek 6 times since the nomination.

14. In fairness, are you sure that "celebrity" was referring to Obama?
I could see interpreting the shirt as a statement against a celebrity-worshiping society. Kind of like "Kill Your Television". In that case, I would appreciate the concept.

21. Seems pretty obvious that many people would see that and think it's referring to Obama
The rethugs have been doing their damnest to make Obama's campaign a matter of celebrity worship. They've thrown the word 'celebrity' around so much now, that even if that T-shirt didn't necessarily refer to Obama, it does so in many people's minds.
