A couple weeks ago, my aunt asked me how she can get some Obama yard signs... she says that throughout her town of Brockway, PA (West-central PA) there are nothing but McCain signs and she wanted to show that there were Obama supporters there after her son, my cousin had been called up to possibly go to Iraq just 6 months before his enlistment was to end. I referred her to barackobama.com, but with each sign being $8 and a rush delivery to get the signs before the election being another $20-30, she didn't do it (like many of us, she doesnt have a lot of money in these tough times). I also looked online for a Jefferson County Democratic HQ that may sell the signs, but couldnt find any info for her.
Now, my aunt is not the political junky that we are here...she has never given a crap about politics until this year...but a friend of hers said that in Clarion, PA there were Obama signs all over and she said she would steal some for her, so my aunt, not knowing that people would possibly be offended by this act (much less that someone would think its a McCain supporter stealing signs) said "hell yeah, go get me some!"...So this friend went to this yard that had like 10 Obama signs and took 4 of them which now sit in my Aunts yard.
She called me and told me this story with such pride, thinking she did a good thing...which really it was for a good cause - to get some Obama signs in a town that previously had none...I then explained to her that the victim of the sign robbery probably thinks that it was a McCain supporter trying to take Obama signs down and she felt kinda bad.
So in an attempt to lessen the karmic retribution on the good intentions of my aunt, I am posting this apology to whomever was the victim of this robbery on her behalf. She really thought that she did a good thing, and rest assured the signs are serving a good purpose, raising awareness to the Obama campaign in a city that is traditionally a republican stalwart.
By the way, as for my cousin, he doesn't have to go to Iraq after all. He went to the training facility in KY and after arrival, he was told that they had enough volunteers to accomplish whatever mission they were about to deploy on and they sent him back, hopefully for good.
