Are the Ontario Provencial Police Setting Up Another 'Wounded Knee'?
The Mohawks of Tyendinaga are under siege right now. OPP Swat Team has been spotted in the area. Canada, Ontario and the band council want to set up a mega jail in the middle of the community. The Mohawks are adamantly against it.

"There's no need for it. What we really need are fresh water, education and health facilities. And we want a peaceful resolution", say the concerned Mohawks.

1. So this kind of stuff doesn't just happen in the U.S.
I hope it ends well. I know a couple of people who were at Wounded Knee in '73. It did not have to be as bad, but could have been worse.

4. Someone needs to get pictures and send them to Yahoo ...

Then have everyone email them to each other, to get the rankings up, Digg them, Reddit them, get them out there.

5. It shouldn't be up to the police to deal with issues like this. It should be
the federal government who takes the heat. OPP are just doing what they are told to do.

10. The OPP is controlled by the Liberal Ontario govt.
The federal govt. has nothing to do with this.

If you hear about the RCMP going in, THEN it's the federal govt.

"Police Chief Ron Maracle has warned the people that he is prepared to use force to set up the multi-million dollar high tech security jailhouse. He already threatened that if local residents keep complaining, they'll be the first inmates."

11. I don't know exactly what this is about
But it ain't no "Wounded Knee".

The police chief is a NATIVE. The name "Maracle" is common among Mohwak here in eastern Ontario. There are a few Maracles who are famous in the arts and government.

This seems to be more of a power grab amongst the band leaders, against the wishes of the community.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that the OPP wants to get involved in this. After the "Oka Crisis" and the Dudley George shooting, heavy-handed police tactics by the Ontario or Federal governments are going to be given a dim view by the public.

And besides, the Ontario government is Liberal with no love for the Harper conservatives.

Believe me, this is not even close to being a siege situation. it hasn't even made the news here and I've been listening to CBC all day.
