‘There is a real sadness there’ in the White House.»

The Washington Post reports today that loyal Bushies are engaging in upbeat talk to mask “disappointment and frustration among many White House staffers,” who see their boss as “a good and steadfast man who has gotten a bad rap”:

“Everybody kind of wanted to spend the last 100-plus days doing some legacy things, and the financial crisis has thrown a wrench into that,” said one prominent Republican who regularly talks with senior White House officials.

“You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win,” this person added. “There is a real sadness there.”

8. Having been a West Wing fan ...
... I can see how the staffers would be bummin' cause they're the ones who are totally invested, who live to be 'civil servants' and when their jobs end it will be like experiencing a death in the family.

Bush, Cheney and the other un-dead Cabinet members? They don't give a shit. Their offshore bank accounts and property deals are sealed, and I honestly don't think they were ever really 'true believers' in anything other than how to embezzle the country's money for 8 years.

that used national tragedy and patriotism to start a meaningless war which resulted in the deaths of thousands who meant us no harm.

He robbed the poor to give to the rich.

The list of failure is endless but history will judge him one of the most destructive leaders in the history of our country

reality.
I never thought I would welcome any crisis on my nation, however, the financial situation seems to have been the antidote for the complacency of many people. It has lifted the veil and exposed the incompetence at a most critical juncture.
We will survive the financial problems. I do not think we would have survived more neo-con fascism.

the country's experience for the last 8 years. They are no where near knowing how we felt. They were a horror in our history. People are dead because of them. Our country is bankrupt because of them. Our constitution is in shreds because of them. They should all be in prison. I hope history remembers them accurately and all future generations never forget the lessons learned from this coup.

- illegal wiretapping

- put a couple of unqualified Repuke stooges on the Supreme Court

- market tanking

etc. etc.

Their plan to seize near-dictatorial power, loot the treasury, enrich their friends, and saddle the country with crushing debt that compromises the effectiveness of the Federal government has succeeded brilliantly.

I eagerly await prosecution of the whole lot of them for treason and war crimes. Think they're unhappy now? Let's see how happy they are in prison.

that radical deregulation of the financial sector could have lead to a catastrophic economic meltdown. Oh, and Bush is pretty much directly responsible for the destruction of the Republican brand, too. But I guess no one could have anticipated that if you run the most corrupt and incompetent administration since Harding that the voters might actually get pissed off.

power where the next President's family shows up at the WH for a visit with the current family they will be stuck having to spend time with the chimps. Usually the two "Presidents" and their families get together on the morning of inauguration day as well.

I just hope the Obamas bring in a highly-skilled crew of fumigators. That place is going to need it.

61. No sadness here
Nearly everyone on the planet wants to forget the whole ordeal of this presidency.

63. Oh, I feel so much sorrier for these people than for the 1,000s of Iraqis they maimed & slaughtered
Oh, and the pity they evoke in me is far greater than that for the people of New Orleans who were left to drown like rats.

70. 22%.
George W. Bush now holds the record of the lowest approval rating ever recorded for a sitting U.S. President. Additionally, he also holds the record for highest disapproval rating.

A "bad rap" are the hundreds of thousands of George W. bUsh's casualties.

is to sink even lower in his approval rating.

Torture, illegal war, spying on Americans, sacking our treasury, corrupting our Justice Department -- corrupting our regulatory agencies.

Fuck you big and little.

STILL DOING, the monster! I hope he rots in hell for his 'work' on that issue alone. Him & Dick 'Dick' Cheney both.

76. You know, Bush seems like he could be a really awesome person...
...if his politics just weren't so damned screwed up. He'd be someone you could hang out with at a party or something and think he's a cool guy, as long as the conversation stayed on sports and family and innocuous stuff like that.
 I may be way off. Who knows?

80. Really? To me, he always seemed like a frat house dickhead kind of guy.
The kind of guy who would have his buddy go on all fours behind you so he could push you backwards, or the kind of guy who would hold a seat out for you to sit and then pull it out from under you at the last second.

83. Memo to Obama: Clean (White) House!!!
Legacy stuff, my ass.

Repeating myself as usual, but Obama needs to clean out that White House staff from top to bottom.

Let's remember when Clinton moved in. His staffers said they "couldn't even find the light switches." So they retained a loyal, grateful Bush staffer named Linda Tripp.

I guess some of these asshats are Civil Service, not political appointees, and can't be fired. But they can certainly be transferred.

I think it would be exceptionally fitting if most them got transferred to the Interior Department, Division of Fish Hatcheries and Endangered Animal Population Counting. In Alaska, of course.

Not to worry, little staffers. Don't be riding a bummer -- George W. Bush has done a heckuva job, and he leaves a hell of a legacy.
