2. I like to mix it up. I'll be on DU while I surf the channels. I may even turn on
NPR in the background...I'm a glutton for punishment. :-)

Of course, FOX will be on upstairs because that's all my dad will watch (maybe CNBC for a while). I will
have to hide out down here in the basement to escape his ranting and kvetching...oh well.

3. I plan to work, walk in the park, play with my dog, cook
and watch old movies.

I may peek at MSNBC once in awhile.

When I get the news, either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, I plan to get really drunk...either way.

9. I really can't stomach any of the pundits. I won't be watching any of them.
If Democracy Now is having coverage I may flip there. I think it is going to be really close so I don't think I will be staying up and waiting.

4. DU is at its worst when everyone 'talks' and nobody 'listens.'
We've become a forum of posters who don't read and who don't engage in civil discussion. In over 6 years, I've never seen so many duplicate threads and "hit and run" (post without discussion) threads. DU is at its worst when it goes to DefCon 1-2-3 ... with almost NO interaction ... sheer Garbage Out. Redundant, superficial, and trivial posts with absolutely no additive community value. Election Night will be, I expect, horrible for any discourse. The bandwidth-wasting 'everyone vomit' mentality is getting more and more depressing, not the least being the 'kick wars' and post-count obsession with flame-bait and nanny-scolding.

So ... I'll focus on MSNBC supplemented by CSPAN and CNN ... with DU and Web news feeds as a supplement. It'll be a virtual waste of time to post into the pile of horse-shit where few are looking for any ponies.

6. The paradigm of "chat room" has apparently obliterated any 'Usenet' tradition.
As an "old school" Internet user who appreciated the evolution of newsgroups and thoughtful on-line discussion where folks had a fulsome appreciation for bandwidth (using 300 baud modems), I get nostalgic for the "good old days" when the 'on-line community' reveled in the miracle of a technology in which we were all involved. (I was part of an extended workgroup that invented and developed the Ethernet and was a pioneer in relational database technology - two core technologies for today's Internet/Web.) We APPRECIATED the enormity of the 'cyberspace' we'd created and were working to develop. I guess the "Tragedy of the Commons" was inevitable ... but that doesn't make it any less tragic.

7. and all the good stuff gets buried..
I like the sites that post the returns as they come in. That's usually what I am obsessed with on election night, although I am all over the place afraid I've missed something.

8. "the good stuff gets buried" ... the optimist looking for the pony in the pile of horse manure, huh?

That's the allusion I was making. Yes ... I'm another one -- all too frequently having to shower and remove the smell.
