Georgia Senate seat may be a runoff for December.

Senator Saxby Chambliss leads Democratic challenger Jim Martin by five percentage points in his bid for re-election in Georgia. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the race finds the Republican incumbent with 48% of the vote and Martin with 43%. Libertarian Party candidate Allen Buckley picks ups seven percent (7%) of the vote while two percent (2%) remain undecided.

But, under Georgia law, a candidate must win at least 50% of the vote or face a run-off election in December.

If Buckley’s support stays at current levels, it would be difficult for either Chambliss or Martin to win the majority needed to avoid a run-off. It is also possible, however, that some Buckley supporters may choose instead to vote for one of the major party candidates.

If this goes down we need donations after the general election at Martin contribution page. We may be able to take another senate seat if we can raise the funds between now and December. It's looking pretty good right now. Help us get rid of Saxby Chambliss.

2. Definitely looking like a runoff
A local news anchor and election pundit were joking about how wonderful it will be to have 4 more weeks of the kinds of ads we have been seeing lately down here.

Sure would be nice to have a DEM president to bump Martin's numbers...

3. Plus Martin may be the one that puts us over 60 giving us complete control.
Kick! Kick! Kick! Lets rub the Hannitys and the Limbaughs faces in it this time.

5. We got a robocall today for Jim Martin from ....
Obama himself!!

On another note, I've noticed precious few Martin signs in SW Ga. If there's a runoff, I'm going to bring in a truckload of signs.

Oddly, this SW Ga. county (my hometown) is a blue island in a sea of red. We saw this plainly in the 2004 returns. Touchscreens this time.

I vote in a NW Fla county which is also a blue island in a sea of red. We have paper ballots there.

Edited to add: Oh! I see you meant SIGNS will be stolen. You're probably right.

4. If that goes down
you need to keep posting about the situation keeping it in the minds of DUers.

Chambliss going down would be the icing on the cake.

6. CHAMBLISS could be OUT?!
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 04:09 PM by DireStrike
Wow, first I've heard of that!

Oh man, could you see the dems at 59 senate seats and a runoff for Chambliss's seat? This could be a HUGE race...

12. I'm thinking a runoff will favor Chambliss
The huge turnout is because of Obama. I can't imagine all those people coming back to vote in January after making the effort in November.

That said, an Obama win could have a great demoralizing affect on Repubs, causing a *very* low Repub turnout.

On balance, I'll go for a runoff favoring Chambliss.

13. I must be missing something. Why would a runoff vote be different
from the actual vote, assuming the same people showed up and voted the same way? Is the third guy taken out of the mix in the runoff?

14. I've already donated to Martin and will again if necessary.
As a vet, I can tell you I'll do whatever I can to defeat that POS Chambliss, and I'll do it FOR Max Cleland. Just keep us posted.

15. A run-off in Georgia ...
...will activate & energize the InterNet Money Machine.
We'll take this election NATIONAL.

Chambliss will come to know what it means to be Bachmannized.

16. Definitely we'll all pitch in for a run-off. Chambliss is scum for what
he and his crooked cronies did to Cleland. I'll never let it die. Chambliss is at the top of my black book forever...not that he cares.

17. Obama could turn on his super-fundraising-machine in an instant
And give Jim Martin a $15 million dollar ad budget.

People who want PATRONAGE from the new President will fund that, too.
