So I fell off my bike cycling around a lake on this Indian Summer Day.. and then life got political

First look at my arm (and then there's my palm, and my foot.....)

Then look at why this ride was needed to soothe my worried soul

Now look at the new mag I made this afternoon for the back of my truck.
It was spied by my houseguest as she came home from working. She is a wonderful and witty young woman who works for Emily's list and is in town working all the time she does not sleep to defeat Liddy Dole.

She had seen my injuries earlier and inquired. Then she suggested I call the cops and claim a Republican had beaten me up as punishment for my vehicle and yard decorations.

She said: We could so easily make totally sure NC goes blue.
I must admit I thought about it for a split minute.
My car and yard are awesome, and so are my injuries.

2. Ouch, that injury looks painful
I've fallen 3 times this year, but never ended up with a bruise like that one.

7. The bike fell on top of my arm as I crashed against a barricade
at the end of the lake, it was that barrier, or a street with serious traffic.
I'm a lucky girl today.
I lived to see Obama get elected

Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 11:39 PM by Texas Explorer
are you? I am in Mooresville visiting my uncle and getting my mom and dad, who have just moved here, settled in.

Edited to add: I have seen more Obama/Biden signs around here than anywhere else on my trip from Texas and they outnumber mcsame signs 10:1. They are everywhere around here!

4. Ouch! Not for one up-manship, but after my first major bicycle accident,
they took an EEG to see if they could harvest my organs.

I had a three day coma, a week in intensive care, and 3 weeks in the hospital.

My second major accident, my eye swelled shut for two weeks.

My third - a car deliberately swerved to hit me - I had injuries sort of like yours.

20. You absolutely should do that.
I was not wearing a helmet for the first accident. The accident was totally my own fault.

I could have killed the driver of the car that hit me, and as it was, I destroyed her car totally.

I was young and going way too fast.

In fact, I was going way too fast for the second accident as well, but it was sort of a question of bad design of a bike path.

24. Here's why I stopped (until now ) wearing a helmet
I'm vain - and I feel geeky with it on

I was in Europe (me ex-home) recently where bicyclists in Germany are 35 percent of traffic.
I counted about 1 in 100 with a helmet, so I decided to just opt for not looking geeky.

until now

29. The helmet is cool.
I have not ridden without a helmet for a very long time.

I don't let my boys straddle the handlebar unless they're wearing one.

We've had several people killed here in K.C. area while training for the MS150. Hopefully nobody meant to hit them. Crazy mofos.

18. They say - about some contemporary art
that it is not representative of anything they recognize.
My photo and of course the wonderful Monet prove it is all there in front of us, all the time.
I took pictures of water puddles at Yellowstone that look like the most glorious modern paintings, they illustrate this point just like the shot of autumn water I posted.
Thanks for bringing the Monet back to me (us)

26. Oh I am just fine. Black and Blue is beautiful because
Have you ever noticed, speaking of color, that the really deep black people are actually a shade that is blue purple like eggplant. With reflections on the skin just because of the color.

Have you ever noticed, therefore, that nothing is ever really black, except the absence of color?

27. Most definitely. I've been painting for a few years
and the more you study the works of the masters, the more you realize what you thought was black is really just dark shades of blues, purples, and browns. Here's a mural I did for my friend's one year old. My friend loves Starry Night and Harry Potter, so I combined them.

I'm so sorry you got hurt, and I hope that you heal quickly!

My poor bicycle is collecting dust upstairs right now. I just haven't felt like riding this year. It looks like you had some perfect weather for riding, and I hope you and your bike will be up for another ride before too long.
