What races are you going to watch closely Tuesday night?
I'm making myself a little scorecard, so I can cheer each time an inspiring candidate trounces a right-whine jackal. I want to make a list of races where the Democrat is inspiring, and/or the Republican is grotesque.

Here's my start:

Alaska: Sen. Ted "Tubes" Stevens (R.), convicted felon, vs. former mayor of Anchorage, Paul Begich (D.). Remember, Stevens and Sarah Palin have campaigned for each other and fundraised for each other, for years; I want to see that monstrous woman kicked back to a more hostile Alaska.

North Carolina: Sen. Elizabeth "Liddy" Dole (R.) vs. Kay Hagan (D.). Dole brought religious pandering to a new low this season, when she released an ad accusing Hagan of being "Godless." Hagan is a Sunday school teacher.

Minnesota: Cong. Michelle Bachmann (R.) vs. El Tinklenberg (D.). Bachmann is the lunatic who called for political figures to be investigated for holding "anti-American" views. She once said she was proud to be from Minnesota, "the workingest state" in the nation, where more people hold two jobs and three jobs than anywhere else.

Minnesota: Sen. Norm Coleman (R.) vs. Al Franken (D.).

Colorado: Cong. Marilyn Musgrave (R.) vs. Betsy Markey (D.). Musgrave proposed a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. She has openly said that anyone who did not support the invasion of Iraq is a traitor.

I want to see the magic number 60 manifest in the U.S. Senate.

I also want to see California's Proposition 8 fail dramatically.

What else is exciting? What other items from your wish list might find their way to reality?

Are there other races that have you riled up?

Are there important battles for Governor or Mayor taking place?

Are there other statewide amendments or propositions I should be watching?

I am SO FUCKING THRILLED to be alive at this moment!

20. Washington Governor: Gregoire v. Rossi v.2.0
The polls have them at a statistical 'dead heat'. I want a decisive vote, one way or the other. Remember that last time it went all the way to January with recounts and court challenges. I don't want that this time. One way or the other, and let the chips fall where they may.

4. Echo the races you note, plus some House races here in CA and the Propositions.
(aside) Two thumbsup for Gov. Dean's 50 state strategy. Obama's candidacy, coupled with a national push for Democratic seats looks to be a win, win.

7. All of the ones you mentioned,
checking nationally to see how many seats we pick up.

Locally in CA and SF,

Prop 8 goes down

Prop H goes down

I forget the letter designation here in SF, but we have one to decriminalize prostitution, would like that to pass.
Naming the sewage plant in "honor" of the monkey man, I would heart that.

Getting Pelosi out. I wrote in Rachel Maddow. Sorry for those who like Cindy, I just don't think she's up to the job.

These are the ones I can think of off the top. Props 8 and H are most important to me locally.

12. Races I'm watching:
LA 01: Steve "Mistake on the Lake" Scalise vs. Jim Harlan (D). I'd love to see this Republican stronghold turn blue and I think that we have a good chance this year.

This is the same seat that gave us Livingston, Vitter, and Jindal. :puke:

Bachmann vs. Tinklenberg

Dole vs. Hagan

Coleman vs. Franken

Prop 8 fail

21. Delaware congressional race.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 12:07 PM by DiverDave
With the 'HUGE' population of my state we have just the one.
It sure is time to get Mike Castle out...
I'm rooting for the large Democratic turnout in the urban areas to beat the downstate red voters...I hope they stay home since mccain is so far behind here.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Barack Obama still holds a strong lead over John McCain in Delaware. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Joseph Biden’s home state finds his running mate ahead 56% to 41%.

However it looks pretty bad for Karen Hartley-Nagle as shes behind, big time, 74%-26%...castle is a tough nut to crack, so I'm hoping that a big Democratic turnout will pull off the upset, but I ain't holding my breath.

23. WA governer's race
Gregoire pulled ahead a bit last week, but the polls tightened back up to a dead heat over the weekend. If Rossi wins in a Democratic state in a Democratic year, you can expect to see him on a national stage soon.

He's much like Bush in 2000 - a far-right ideologue that is very polished at sounding like a reasonable moderate. He's also one of those big-business Republicans with enough street cred with the fundies to hold the coalition together. Dangerous, IMO.

24. Some more....
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R.) vs. Bruce Lunsford (D.). McConnell is the Senate Minority Leader, a huge cheerleader for the Iraqi occupation. He has opposed campaign finance reform; he drove the legislation to eavesdrop on American citizens without obtaining a warrant. He insisted that Clinton aides testify under oath, but argued that Karl Rove and Harriet Miers shouldn't have to. McConnell represents everything that is vile in the Republican party: he's corrupt, hypocritical, and supports a dogma that harms America.

Arizona: Rep. John Shadegg (R.) vs. Bob Lord (D.). Shadegg is an archconservative whose campaign has involved some dirty tricks; the Democrats found that Shadegg's campaign credit card had been dropped at Democratic headquarters, probably during a break-in.

John Sununu (R.) vs former governor Jeanne Shaheen (D.). Sununu has called Sen. Obama a socialist, and tried to dismantle Social Security.

Florida: Tom Feeney (R.) vs. Suzanne Kosmas (D.). Feeney was one of the corrupt bastards who was caught sucking off Abramoff's money; he has voted against many pro-veteran measures.

Missouri: Kenny Hulshof (R.) vs. Jay Nixon (D.) for Governor.
