100 mile non constitutional zone around US borders
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 03:35 AM by Porschenut1066
The Homeland security site appears to say that they have imposed a 100 mile non constitutional coverage area from any US border point.
So all US constitutional rights or Bill of Rights protections do not apply to US or non US citizens and the border patrol or any federal authority can without probable cause: Stop and search your car, luggage, person. Arrest you without telling you why you are being arrested. Prevent you from calling anyone to tell them you have been arrested. Prevent you from getting a lawyer. Put you in front of a military tribunal where the normal rules of evidence do not apply and hearsay evidence is enough to convict you. To sentence you to life in prison without the right of appeal.

This is bad enough but it now suggests that the 100 mile zone may be applied to the areas surrounding International Airports!
Is there any part of the United States that is more than 100 miles from either a border or an international Airport?
This looks like a very handy way to invalidate every single US citizen of their constitutional rights.

I know that currently Homeland Security is only enforcing this non constitutional zone in the zones within 100 miles of actual physical borders like Mexico and Canada and Florida but according to the site they could at any moment of their choosing decide that the 100 mile area around the International Airports will be enforced since that has already been authorized.

Has anyone else noticed this very disturbing and yet un publicized restriction on our civil liberties that has it seems only been quietly published on the Homeland Security site and then mostly in bits and pieces that is hard to follow?

I will get the Homeland Security link in the AM for you.

1. Could you grab something from the site?
Damn, that would pretty much imply martial law, at the drop of a hat.

4. Wired article
http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/10/aclu-assails-10.html

Seems you can be stopped anywhere inside the 100 mile buffer without suspicion for an immigration check. In other words, the nasty experiences that used to be confined to border crossings have been expanded inland. My whole damn city is inside the zone.

9. I'm surprised this BS zone doesn't extend into the 'sovereign' nations of....
Canada and Mexico.

This Homeland Security shit needs to be disbanded.

11. I'll agree to that
I always knew that when authoritarianism creeped into this country, it would come from the same idiots who squalled for years about "jackbooted thugs" when the IRS garnished their paychecks or zoning ordinances wouldn't let them raise wolverines in their yards. Homeland Security wouldn't have stood a chance if those fuckers hadn't rolled for their Republican Big Stick Daddy these past eight years.

5. I know some great restaurants in Overland Park (KC, Kansas).
And the women, there, are wild (I'm not kidding).

But kinda big.

But Proud2BLib and MuseRider are nearby.

We could have great conversation.

7. I'm sorry, but
a) I do not recognize "Homeland Security" as a legal entity

b) NO ONE can declare a "Constitution-free zone". NO ONE.

(I've always been in a perpetual state of denial, btw.)

But, still, I do not recognize the legitimacy of this phenomenon.

8. It's a classic Cheney move. Sieze the initiative and let someone challenge you
For the past 7.8 years very few have challenged anything, and so the dark lord's power grew.

I would like to believe that Obama, being a dedicated advocate of the Constitution will end this and many other atrocities committed against the American people with a stroke of a pen that by executive order undoes hundreds of Bush's executive orders.

10. But...but...
I don't recognize Cheney as legitimate.

And, indeed! May he undo all this illegal "legislation", starting with all the Bush executive orders and signing statements and immediately disassemble Dept. of "Homeland Security"!

And get Congress to rescind the Patriot Acts.

12. YOU may not recognize the legitimacy of it
But unfortunately, to date, the courts DO. And therein lies the problem. We have to fight this tooth and nail, hook and claw, until the sort of people who would shove such down our collective throat are defeated. The work only begins on Tuesday, where and when it ends is anyone's guess.

14. Do not doubt for one minute
that I will be voting (today, I have decided). And voting for Obama/Biden.

I can only hope that Obama will implement the priorities I have listed above.

15. I live 16 miles from Boston. I have no rights? I can be searched,?
arrested,jailed, whatever?

Is this my government?
This is crazy!
Maybe they can torture me for my cinnamon roll recipe?
Confiscate my computer to see what I read? DU? OH Oh.
Sweep my house for D-con(sounds like suspicious stuff,no)?
Check my car for contraband after they vacuum up the dog fur?
Check my rubbish for Obama literature? Incendiary!
Make me move from the area where supporters can stand with signs to support candidates?
Am I inciting a riot?

What the hell is going on here?

Never in a million years, or in my case 66 years, would I believe this.
Can we fall any lower?
