Dems could very well pick off most of the moderates in this election. And the McCain-Palin crowds have gotten significantly more extreme over the course of the general election.
I think if Obama wins and Dems pick up more seats in both Houses, you'll see an even bigger gap between the rational and irrational.
The minority will be vocal. And what they believe in and how they seek to govern is not a pretty picture. There is an ugly side of our country, and we'll have to fight it harder than ever. No matter what happens during this election.

I was thinking about that and he reminded me of a few things, so I stopped and wrote this post. :) I had gotten a weird youtube message from a RWer who I have corresponded with a few times, somebody who I'm fairly friendly with but this person still thinks Obama is Muslim and all kinds of wild far out RW talking points about Obama and Dems in general. She out of nowhere got a little crazy on me. I don't speak psycho so I had to block that user, but the point is, I think that person is the face of the GOP we're going to be left with. And it's not one that's rational or that we can work with. I find it troubling. It's good to be in charge, and if Obama wins and we score a big win all around that's great, but that doesn't mean the partisanship will stop. It might even get worse.
These are the people who, in their hearts, think Obama is a Muslim and the rest of us are traitors. Like that lady who refused to give candy to children of Obama supporters, or that woman who told McCain that Obama was an "arab." And in Congress we'll be stuck with the Virgil Goode/Michele Bachmann/Steve King wing of the party. You can't really deal with them, they're too far gone.

3. The GOP went out of its way to enroll these crazies, now they are |

not only in charge, but may be all that remains. I believe if the Democratic win is strong enough the GOP will split ater a period of mutual blame and lots of whining. There will be a third party and the left overs of the Republicans. I think the country clubbers will keep the GOP and the snake handlers will find a new home, but if things go bad enough, it may work the other way around, leaving the RIGHT-Religious as THE Republican Party, and the executives etc starting a new party.
It will be interesting - it may take most of their time and effort for years to come.
Fingers crossed.
