Is this true? I know they lie but would they really take a chance at lying to this magnitude considering how damaged the republican brand has become?

I'd like to know where she got that cuz this is the 2nd time I've heard this.

1. did she open her mouth?
Then it was a lie.

now she is yucking it up over more distortions and lies. That woman calls herself a Christian? Gives Christianity a bad name, imo.

3. It's not true...she's a fucking LIAR
Obama's tax plan is extremely clear and easy enough for even a half-educated dumbfuck like Sarah Palin to understand. She's spreading outright lies in her final desperation before being shuffled back to the great North for a life of obscurity and Quayle comedy status.

5. No. A person making 120k would get a 2.1% tax CUT with Obama's plan
Obama's tax increases really start at 603k incomes (an 8.7 percent increase-or return to the pre-Bush tax structure). Obama gives a 5.5% tax cut to those making under 19k, while McCain gives them a 0.2% cut and a 4.4% cut to those making OVER 2.87 million a year. Some redistribution of wealth, eh?

9. SHE IS NOT LYING
Really, she's not. What she's talking about is Obama's plan to lift the cap on social security deductions, which is set at about $120,000 right now. What he proposes to do is get rid of that limit and take a SS tax on income above that amount.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, somebody.

(I think this should have been done long ago and am glad to see Obama is for it.)

11. No, he does not propose "getting rid of that limit", only raising the cap
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:43 AM by Justitia
which is a huge difference.

Did Palin the Consummate Liar explicitly state this is what she has been referring to?

edit to add: BTW, the cap is not $120k, so I'm pretty sure this is NOT whatever lie Palin is trying to put forward.

13. You're splitting hairs.
There is not a "huge difference" in raising the cap, or getting ride of the limit, in this case. Palin is correct in saying that what Obama plans to do, in the case of Social Security, will cause people who make over $120 thousand a year to pay more taxes--they WILL, in the case of Social Security. That is a fact, whichever way you want to spin it.

14. Obviously you haven't studied Tax Accntng or Actuarial Science
There is an ENORMOUS difference between raising the cap by a percentage and eliminating it altogether.

It most certainly IS NOT "splitting hairs".

And the FICA cap IS NOT $120k.

Since you are so familiar w/Palin's ludicrous assertions, just what the hell is she talking about w/the $120k?
Or, as I suspect, did she pull that number out of her ass?
Please cite a source.

Maybe you should get the facts straight before you go about defending Palin's nonsensical arguments for her.

17. THE FICA CAP IS LOWER! $102K
So, that means that if you raise the cap (or get rid of it), then people making over $102 thousand (not $120 thousand) will be paying more social security taxes. This means that Palin was giving more of an allowance to Obama's tax plan than I stated before. It means that people making $102 thousand will be paying more FICA, instead of people making more than $120K.

I'm a Democrat and a long time member of DU. You don't have to get rude with me. For someone who infers that they have studied tax accounting and actuarial science, then you should have known that the cap is $102K, which gives MORE credence to Palin's assertion that Obama will raise taxes, not less.

I defend the truth, but it's still the truth, whether Democrats say it, or Republicans.

18. Cite me where Palin says this is SPECIFICALLY the issue she is referring to & it's still wrong.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:32 PM by Justitia
Obviously I knew what the cap was, and neither YOU nor Palin (if that is REALLY what she's talking about) knew the correct figure.
I'm glad my post encouraged you to ACTUALLY LOOK IT UP SOMEWHERE.

I think YOU are making wild assumptions that the increased % of FICA is what that crazy woman meant.
I think she's pulling a number out of her ass - I don't ascribe her much intelligence about FICA.

It is valiant of you to defend her crazy ass accusations, however. I'd still like a specific cite for that claim.

BTW, if you are "a Democrat and a long time member of DU" what the fuck are you doing defending the rantings of Sarah Palin for anyway?

As to "rudeness", well, you introduced that yourself with the accusation of "splitting hairs" & "spin".

22. Look at the original post in this thread.
The original poster made the statement that Palin said that Obama would raise taxes on those making over $120K. The only way that that could happen was if he is for lifting the cap on SS taxes from $102K, where it presently sits. That is, indeed, what he has proposed.

http://www.alternet.org/workplace/83193/lift_the_social_security_cap_--_it_won't_hurt,_but_it_will_help/

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/11/12/104059/13

As I said before, it doesn't matter to me where the truth comes from--I will endeavor to defend it. I don't like Palin anymore than you do, but you do your party a disservice when you do not give credence where credence is due.

Spin is spin and splitting hairs is splitting hairs. It is not rude to call them what they are. I am indeed a Democrat and feel no need to defend myself for being one that has a genuine taste for truth, no matter where it comes from. Palin lies enough so that we don't have to credit her with lies she has not told.

23. Once again, you are ASSUMING that is what she meant - no proof.
And ASSUMING she has such a detailed view on FICA is folly on your part.

But you go ahead and keep defending Sarah Palin.
You still have not proven your assertion that she is talking about the SS cap.

You sure are focused on "raising taxes", aren't you? To the extent of trying to make this woman seem credible.

I guess, like Sarah Palin, you aren't that fond of keeping Social Security solvent for the next 75 yrs.

Pushing so hard on this seems bizarre for a Democrat.

24. And it's a good assumption.
When Palin says that, above 120K, Obama will raise your taxes, then it is pretty safe to assume that she's talking about SS taxes, since the cap on that is $102K.

You know, you continually put words in my mouth and ascribe to me meanings that simply are not there. If Obama has a plan to lift the cap on SS taxes, which is currently at 102K, then the FACT is that his plan is to raise taxes on people who earn over $102K. THAT makes sense, not your continual ranting about MY political leanings. It is not up to ME to discern what Sarah Palin "means" by saying that Obama will raise taxes on earners of more than $120K. I am simply stating the fact that that is TRUE.

I think that the cap on SS SHOULD be raised and I agree with Obama on this point. Does that make me a Republican now?

What is bizarre is your continued attacks on my political leanings. I am a Democrat, fucking like it or not. Sounds like you might just be on here to stir shit.

25. No, you defended Palin, saying she was a truth teller - you were WRONG.
And now you've tried to turn this into something else because you were wrong.

Even though you valiantly defended her integrity, your girl lost tonight.

I hope Congress does raise the damn cap - I love Social Security.

26. Do you have problems with comprehension?
I have turned this into NOTHING else. Palin was, for once, telling the truth. Obama's plan raises taxes (Social Security taxes) on anyone making over the cap, which is $102K. Like it or not, she was telling the truth. And that's what I defended: the truth. Not her integrity, not her candidacy, not anything else about the nasty bitch; only the fact that she was, indeed, telling the truth, in this case.

And she's not "my girl." You ought to be ashamed of yourself for suggesting such a thing--that I am someone a Republican for defending someone, anyone, when they tell the truth.

I hope Congress raises the cap on social security, too. I think it would be fair if they eliminated it, entirely, in fact.

But let's get back to you, and your motives, in continually accusing me of being a Republican. Why would you do something like that? To cause disruption here? How very unDemocratic.

You sure have picked a weird defense (& republican) to stake your intellectual reputation on.

20. please don't spread misinformation.

no no no. No tax increases until your over $250k.

If you removed that cap, that would be an increased at about 101k which is clearly not is happening.

Obama is abundantly clear. Nothing increases under 250k.

They've been running ads on the radio here touting how she and McCain are actually PROPONENTS of stem cell research. I can't imagine even the most cognitively impaired could believe that.
