Despite a nick to his lead from two weeks ago, Barack Obama appears poised to win Ohio in Tuesday’s presidential election, says the latest results of a closely watched poll.
A survey of 1,574 likely Ohio voters by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute showed Obama had support from half of those surveyed, compared with 43 percent support for John McCain. The poll was conducted from Oct. 27 through Sunday.
Quinnipiac’s Ohio poll indicates Obama carries a more than 2-to-1 lead among early voters, pulling in 64 percent support to McCain’s 26 percent.
The majority of surveyed Ohioans – 58 percent – told Quinnipiac pollsters the economy was the biggest issue in the election. That has been a consistent theme among them during the campaign.
When asked which candidate is best suited to work with Congress on the nation’s economic crisis, 53 percent picked Obama, versus 40 percent for McCain.
The Ohio poll’s margin of error is 2.5 percent.
