Do you think there could be a "Reverse Bradley Effect"? |
|
This is defined as white, and probably Republican, voters saying they're for McCain but, in the privacy of the voting booth, just saying "I'm going to do the right thing" or "I'm going to vote for the one I think will be the best president" or "I'm really sick of hateful, divisive politics manipulating me" or a hundred other reasons/rationalizations and vote for Obama.

1. I think where people get a sense of affirmation from voting for a black candidate, they say so... |
|
the only place I can think of where they don't is women voting for Obama married to Republican men.
That's where Hillary Clinton's shadow votes came from too.

11. My mom & dad are a classic example |
|
They even got involved in the caucus process in Nevada. They were both for Hillary at the time...now my dad has slumped into watching too much Faux news and my mom has had me talking to her...and they went to cast early ballots last week - She voted for Obama, because McLame was scary for the world her grandkids would end up in...my dad voted Mclame. And she didn't want me to even talk about it to him, for fear of how he would react to ME (I have Obama paraphenalia all over my house & car!)
she is afraid to tell him, and uses a whispering tone around politics, worried my dad will get mad and start yelling.
(Needless to say it is a 1950's model relationship.)

There will be a reverse Bradley movement and I agree that it will most likely come from intelligent women married to republican men. They could NEVER speak their views among the rabid, but will put it to good use in the polling booth.

2. Yes. I think this is more plausible than the "Bradley Effect", |
|
which is only an unproven theory from 20 years ago.

9. Especially in places like WV |
|
I've heard talk of this already taking place. People just don't want to say they're voting for Obama because of the potential backlash from actual crazies. In a state that voted for Clinton and has suffered under *, people might be wanting to vote in their best interest, not because of race.

3. There will be a "Bandwagon Effect," and no Bradley Effect. |
|
Americans like voting for a winner more than even an underdog. Many will vote for Obama simply because they think he's already got it in the bag and they want to be part of history, as well as part of the winning side.

5. At the very least, such a thing with cancel out a Bradley effect. |
|
I don't believe that lying to pollsters about who you're voting for is very often a one-way thing.
The people who lie and say they're voting one way probably don't out-number those who lie about voting the other way...

7. I don't think the Bradley effect holds water |
|
If you couldn't bring yourself to vote for a black guy, you'd already be voting for the other guy. I just don't see somebody in the booth switching at the last moment, OR being afraid of saying to a pollster that they are voting McCain.
Makes no sense to me.
Reverse? Don't know about that. I just don't think (really haven't heard) that race is the big issue except with a small minority of very provincial folks.

he might have had a chance.
Race has been trumped by reality.

12. The "reverse Bradley effect" I've seen - |
|
I've had 2 people tell me they were planning to vote for McCain, but the blatant racism of McCain's supporters made them re-think that plan, and after they re-thought the main reasons people have for voting for McCain tend to boil down to either "he's black" or "his name sounds Islamic". And once they got thinking, it was basically over for them, and they both decided to vote for Obama.

18. People lie all the time, about the most stupid things. That is a fact. Now, with that being said, |
|
I see no bradly effect when it comes to these elections. It would have happened in the primaries if it were real. And it didn't. So NO.
