McCain sues to force Virginia to count military ballots
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- John McCain's campaign sued Virginia's electoral board Monday, hours before the election, seeking to force the state to count late-arriving overseas military ballots.

The lawsuit asks a federal judge to order the State Board of Elections to count any overseas absentee ballots sent by November 4 and received by local election officials as late as November 14.

1. doesn't the suit ask them to check the votes out first,
and if the late votes are for Obama, they are obviously fraudulent votes, and must be tossed? Only Mccain votes to be counted?

Military donations favor Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. soldiers have donated more presidential campaign money to Democrat Barack Obama than to Republican John McCain, a reversal of previous campaigns in which military donations tended to favor GOP White House hopefuls, a nonpartisan group reported Thursday.

Troops serving abroad have given nearly six times as much money to Obama's presidential campaign as they have to McCain's, the Center for Responsive Politics said.

Federal audit: 70% 2006 overseas military ballots not counted nationally; 73% not counted from FL
This is the first bit of information I have seen about the outcome of the overseas military vote in 2006.... and it's not good.

And

In 2006, of the overseas military ballots requested nationwide, only 30% were counted.

And in Florida in 2006, only 27% were counted.

**And no one knows why.**

14. I'm for all LEGAL votes to be counted.
It's very easy to cheat with absentee ballots if all rules are not followed. You could see that in Florida in 2000
when many clearly illegal absentee ballots were counted just because they were supposedly sent by troops.

6. He's just making noise in hopes that it will sway voters that he is
for the military.

Just more PR drama to manipulate voters.

He is so fucking predictable.

Does this man have any new ideas?

Didn't think so! :eyes:

10. ALL Military votes should be counted.
I don't give a rats ass if they are late or not. Count them. They have earned that right.

Military personnel have not earned any rights that the rest of us do not have. Count 'em all.

13. Sure. If you are in the military you don't have to play by the rules.
Whoever failed to understand that signature, witness's signature and address were necessary to produce a legal ballot
deserves to lose his vote.

17. That's not how it works
If you send in a military absentee ballot you are not required to have a witness sign the ballot unless they voted for you by proxy. The primary reason there's a push for this (and McCain isn't the only one asking for this) is because of the military mail system (the APO/FPO) is notoriously inconsistent. I've mailed stuff to my wife and it's taken as little as a week, but sometimes almost a month for stuff to get to her. They say to mail your ballot off about two weeks ahead of time, but if the mail screws the pooch (as it's done before) and your ballot gets there late, despite you mailing it "on time", then that sucks if someone decides your vote doesn't count through no fault of you're own.

:sarcasm:

that said, I see his point... since hubby WAS in the Navy for 20 years and there are many reasons why a ballot may be postmarked late

Sounds like a sad, last minute attempt to paint the other guy as unpatriotic to me.

He will probably get much less.
