Pack barks at dog kennel ordinance
A new Columbia County task force will tackle land-use issues surrounding dog kennel controversy

By Kelly Moyer

Dog breeders, frustrated neighbors and a Scappoose pet shop owner were among those who packed a county meeting room last week to talk about the merits and drawbacks of a new county dog kennel ordinance being considered by the Columbia County Board of Commissioners.

<snip>

Scott Groves, who has been battling with his neighbor, Stephanie Miller, for more than four years over the dozens of dogs on Miller’s property, joined the dog kennel ordinance task force last year but says he was frustrated that the task force couldn’t tackle land-use or nuisance issues.

2. "the rights of a landowner who moves in next to someone with 70 dogs"
"We really need to start addressing what are the rights of a landowner who moves in next to someone with 70 dogs," Hyde said. "Obviously this needs to be addressed. We have at least three people who have been in this situation."

Er, don't move in. That's like moving in next to an airport and complaining about the noise. Or moving in down the road from the pig farm and complaining about the smell. Or moving into a county in which prostitution is legal and complaining about prostitution. Or moving into a town without regulations and then whining that your neighbor is putting their septic too close to your well.

If you don't like the "location, location, location" or the neighbors, why the hell are you buying there?

If it happens after you've bought and moved in - that is a different story.

3. I have no problem with this ordinance
And, anyone with 70 dogs not running a rescue is a puppy miller and should be shut down.
