They won't be stationed at the polls, but they'll be standing by, waiting. Jeebus. I don't remember anyone ever announcing anything like that during past elections.

My father was on the job for 20 years and he'd be disgusted by that attitude.

18. He said this at a time when he was macing people. Here's what happened....
Some people in the downtown area got out of hand the other night -- a party at a hotel. People came outside and were fighting so the police showed up and maced them. The cop crossed over to another hotel on the opposite side of the street and told people who were trying to leave to stay inside, that it wasn't safe outside. During that conversation is when the conversation turned to politics (my friend was leaving a political meeting) and that's when he made his remark about rather having one night of rioting rather than an Obama presidency. Maybe he thought the masses would be as easy to control as those who acted up at the party.

22. He violated oodles of policy
a police officer is NOT supposed to go into politics while wearing a uniform and on active duty.

I'd lodge a complaint

that they cannot talk politics while on the beat, or at least shouldn't

Now in their private time... as in off duty... sure... knock yourself silly

17. It is not only Toledo
articles came out last week that many a police dept was expecting trouble regardless of who wins.

And as a former medic (in another country) I know we always went on tact alert for the federal elections

99.9% of the time all we got to do was watch people in-line for signs of sun stroke... the other 0,01% involved some rowdy celebration and the effects of it

I suspect it will be the same here... quite brutally honest

And there is more, I am sure police departments have had extra staff every four years... they just don't go into details. The reason why they are going public, I suspect, is to tell rabble rousers don't even think about it.

21. Interesting....
"They have been asked to have their helmets and their gas masks available tomorrow and Wednesday.", Navarre says, "That's the equipment they would not normally carry with them on a normal day".

http://www.wnwo.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=216464

Again knowing more than one cop I KNOW they carry their helmets and masks (as well as basic riot gear) at all times while on patrol

Why?

Most folks know you don't schedule civil unrest

So I call BS on the chief's part. I doubt they are that different in SOP from other city departments around the country

They are just trying to ahem preemptively send a message

27. I really don't think they do normally carry it. I've seen a lot of Toledo cop cars...
...and I've seen the trunks open. I have never seen the big shields in them or helmets. Only time I saw that stuff in use was when we had riots a few years ago when the Nazi folks came to town.

with probably the large batton and the mask. Unless they are not following SOP for urban police departments...

35. Let's just say I know Toledo very, very, very well and
there are many areas that are blatantly, disgustingly racist and many others where they're hidden "genteel" racists. So I'm not surprised to see this from them at all. Not in the least.

and again it is carried at all times by officers on patrol

They are lying... insofar as this not carried on a daily basis...

Motives? I can't fathom why they are... only thing that makes sense is sending message to knuckle draggers

264 solid blue EV's plus 20 = 284 EV's = President Barack Obama.

36. Whew
I'm glad I delivered to Toledo Logistics earlier today. That is one neighborhood I would be persona nongrata if they steal the election from Obama. For the most part (98%), great people. Look out for us truckers that spoend the night waiting to get unloaded. But there is the other element (2%) ready and causing trouble.

I got a load out of Fremont, dropped it by Indy. I get another load in the morning and head for the house for the night, where I will sit in anxious wait for the next POTUS Barack Obama to be announced.

39. They do it every time a city wins a championship.
Millions of people are going to be hyped as fuck, one way or the other. For the cops, this is habit and SOP by now.

I really kinda love the energy this election is generating. The "authorities" will do their thing, as ever.

or otherwise it is another 4 years behind another stolen election.
