"For he to-day who sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother" - Our Call to Arms!!
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 05:52 AM by Are_grits_groceries
From Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com:

For the organizers, the volunteers, every damn brave last one of you:

That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

-- William Shakespeare, Henry the DXXXVIII

3. After Churchill's famous speech
I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, and they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Democracy, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

Even though large tracts of the USA and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Republicans and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Washington, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Nation, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Nation or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Friends beyond the seas, armed and guided by the Free Spirit of America, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, Barack Obama , with all his power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the these United States of America.

4. "Hit them over the head with beer bottles......."
I suppose everyone remembers Winston Churchill saying, “We’ll fight them on the beaches, and the landing grounds; we’ll fight them hand to hand…We shall never surrender…etc.” Less well known is that he put his hand over the microphone afterwards and said to those present… ”We’ll hit them over the heads with beer bottles, because that’s about all we’ve got!” I owe that story to the old red Dean of Canterbury. He was amongst those in the room when Churchill made the speech.
