Masontown, WV: Arrive at polls 7:12, voted and out by 7:18 |
|
It took 6 minutes from the time I parked the car to go in to vote until the time I got back to the car; electronic machines with printed paper confirmation behind glass are in use here.
Of course if every registered voter in this county showed up when the polls opened we'd still be finished voting by noon - there just aren't that many people here.

2. No, but the mood was good. |

Happy smiling faces, and I saw one ex-coworker (long-time loyal Democrat) leave as I was getting checked into the booth. I also checked out the parking lot as I was leaving for bumper stickers. I vote at a schoolhouse that uses different school rooms for different precincts so it is a voting place for more than one. I did not see a single bumper sticker for either Presidential Candidate other than our own Obama sticker.

3. Ahhh, Masontown. My Dad lived there for a while in his youth. |
|
In a little house near where Rainbow Tire is today. He's passed away, but I remember him telling me stories about the way that he and his friends used to race cars through town waaaaay back when. He nearly lost his leg in a wreck coming around Wagon Wheel curve on 7, once! I miss him.

4. I showed up ready to wait in Morgantown. |
|
I think SO and I couldn't have been in there more than 20 minutes. There were 11 people in line before the polls opened and more pulling into the parking lot as we came in. By the time we left about 25 people had come in. Our precinct's a well-oiled machine, so we zipped on through.

6. Did you vote in the old Wal Mart store? It was packed friday. |
|
I rode my bike into town friday and went out past the old Mall. I was suprised to see the old Wal Mart store was being used as an electon place. It was as packed as when it was an operating store. I was very much suprised by both the location and the turnout.

7. Nope, I voted at the Methodist church out on Route 73. |
|
I live pretty close to the old Wal-Mart, though.
The Dominionist-Post said that about 13% of registered Mon County voters voted early. Here's hoping the other 87% show up today!
