I spent 12 years in the military. I was in the first gulf war. I sacrificed so we could have a better America. In the last 8 years I marched in anti-war rallies, paid my taxes, and watched our lifestyles crumble as unemployment climbed. I am a father, grandfather, husband, educator, and most importantly I AM AN AMERICAN. In an individual’s life there are very few defining moments when I cast my vote for Senator Obama for president I believe that was one of those moments. A moment that brought a grown man to tears.
Cheers,

3. I am a Canadian, but today... |

I think most of the world will be stating with pride "I am an American, too". We are all standing with you on, what we all hope, will be a momentous day of celebration. This election has meant so much to me. I have done everything I can to get all my American friends and relatives to take action and donate to Obama (and they all have!). I have been a frequent visitor to DU these past few months and it has been very inspirational to read about all your wonderful personal stories of support for this campaign. My wife and I wish there was more that we could do. We will be with you all in spirit today, as will so many of my countrymen. This isn't over yet - so good luck and keep up the good fight! Go vote!

and tomorrow, as suggested here on DU, I am buying a new flag and flying it outside my house. I suddenly feel proud again.

5. PROUD To be a Democrat |
|
Today is a watershed day for me . . .I live in a neighborhood that is totally Republican. Since I moved here eight years ago, I have been made to feel like I am a second-class citizen because I supported Gore and Kerry. Today I stand up prouder to be a Democrat than any other day in my life.
I plan to put red, white and blue balloons on my Obama sign tonight and plant flags all around it. We are the patriotic Party now.
I am proud to be an American today for the first time in 8 years!
