A Request from FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic.com is having problems with their servers. They have made the following request to their users to help keep their site up:

"Many folks here use Firefox. And if you're like me, and have a highspeed connection, you might have amped up your parallel request processing. So for today, you can turn it back down. Type in about:config in the address bar. Set network.http.max-connections to a low value, 2 or 3 should be good. Set network.http-pipelining.maxrequests to a similar value, say 4 or 5. Ramp it back up tomorrow!"

1. I was going to suggest something
but it would be disruptive, probably illegal, and I wouldn't want the same thing happening to DU.

3. LOL! FR wants their users to "dumb themselves down".
How is that even possible?

5. Yeah, it probably could
They're basicly asking users to voluntarily slow their computers down so that requests aren't coming into their servers as fast.

6. Seems to me the republicans did not look ahead to deal with a
possible over-load today. I could care less if their hateful site shuts down. Sorry, I've had enough of these people and their incompetence.

That's what they always tell us to do.

9. Skinner was asked about this:
He said that it would help, but that it wasn't a big enough deal to make it a formal request.

14. Yup. I Asked Him In Advance So That The Members Here Would Know If Necessary.
I was surprised by his answer actually, but was glad to hear he didn't think it would matter too much.

17. "The server at www.freerepublic.com is taking too long to respond."

The server at www.freerepublic.com is taking too long to respond.

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.
  • Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
  • Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
  • Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
  • Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance.
Gee, those FReepers sure get their money's worth for their quarterly $66,000 or whatever it is snookerthons fundraisers!
