Obama's inauguration to be most-attended swearing-in ceremony EVER in U.S. history.

First, if you read an article like this and decide not to vote "because we're going to win, anyway"- you're dead to me. The ghosts of the Founding Fathers (and mothers) will collectively hover over your head and poop ectoplasm of displeasure onto you. So, VOTE, mmmkay?

Having given that disclaimer...just came across a great article at DemConWatchBlog titled "Could an Obama inauguration be the biggest ever?"

  Some great facts and coincidences:

Largest presidential inauguration: Lyndon Johnson, 1964, estimated 1.2 Million. Aside from being the first African-American candidate to hold the office of the President of the United States, Obama's election would represent a break from almost 10 years of the most lawless, secretive and Orwellian government that America has ever known. And that's one hell of a cause to celebrate! But it doesn't stop there.

The swearing-in ceremony on January 20th will be ringed by two very important anniversaries:

:bluebox: January 19th MLK birthday

:bluebox: January 22nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

My bet: Between 2 and 3 million will show up. This is big. This is exciting. Once in a lifetime event.

My girlfriend said that she was at work yesterday when an older colleague came up to her and breathlessly explained that he'd just gotten off the phone, having booked a flight to DC for the inauguration in a fit of excitement. "I never thought I'd live to see a black man being sworn in as our President- It seemed like Bush would never end- I have to be there, be a part of it!"

I gotta tell you, I'm just about to that point myself!

Are YOU planning on attending the inauguration?

3. There will be people who won't even be within SIGHT of the...
...inauguration, part of one continuous, enormous crowd extending from the inauguration itself. Just to catch the taste of that aura, the moment, of being there. That's what I predict, anyway.

4. Don't plan on driving in, if you haven't gotten a hotel yet just
find one on the train route as close as possible because the streets will not be moving.

6. My girlfriend's co-worker was going to get a hotel but when he..
...called his friends (who live in the area) they said "Screw the hotel, stay with us!"

If you don't have any friends in the area, you might want to try Couchsurfing.com but you'll definitely need a strong sense of adventure to go that route!
