I'm going to San Francisco Friday. Is Prop 8 going down?
My partner of 12 years and I are going to SF on Friday (Powell Place). What are the chances of our being able to join in a "Prop 8 Down in Flames" party?

1. PROP 8 is going down!!!
I think that it'll fail. Narrowly, but fail nonetheless, which is better than passing.

4. The Noes are more committed than the Ayes
which kind of makes sense, seeing as it's none of the Ayes f*cking business.

I agree - bigotry will be put in its proper place.

3. It's hard to say...but no on 8 has been running a lot more ads in recent days
thanks in part to some small donations ;-)

What happened in the campaign is the churches (especially the Mormons) put in a big chunk of money early on in the camapaign, but they blew it fast. Meanwhile, the opposition campaign gradually picked up steam, drew level with them in total funding last week, and has been running far more ads over the last 2 weeks. I'm still nervous because it's a close thing, but I'm cautiously optimistic the amendment will be defeated by a narrow margin. The last polls I saw were so close to the margin of error that I'm keeping my fingers crossed (although the 'No' vote was leading).

5. Guy on street corner with sign that said "Yes on 8..It's About Free Speech"

I googled "proposition 8 free speech" and figured out it's another issue ambiguation attempt too convoluted to bother with here.

Will probably work on some people.

7. "Free to spread our bigoted message" perhaps?
That's a slant I've heard before.

8. Essentially, yes
A hotel chain owner who donated $125,000 to Yes on 8 was pissed that GLBTs boycotted his hotel.

Asshole found out that free speech is a double-edged sword.

12. Uhm.
They can still say mean things if Proposal 8 fails. What free speech could they be talking about?

6. I'll be up late watching that one.
Keeping fingers crossed that we can visit a town in celebration, not mourning. (But it'll be great to visit either way. I love SF!)

9. Its close but I believe it will go down
we had 15 initiatives on the ballot today.
I think voters get into a voting "No" on initiatives spree.

10. I wish I could tell you with certainty.
The chances, alas, are about 50/50.

But given the insane lines I've seen and heard about here in very blue LA, we're doing all we can.
