1. This comment and response is pretty funny:
Quote: "I am truly concerned for what will become of this country with Obama as President IF he wins. It will be a mess."

Response: "I know. The rich having to pull their weight, more money in the hands of the middle class, access to better healthcare, better education opportunities, stopping US jobs from shipping overseas, etc...

Such terrible, awful things!"

3. Wow. Sad.
I always thought of comic geeks as being more enlightened.

Sadly, there's a black sheep in every family. No offense meant to African-Americans. Or Sheep.

7. It's like that at the TrekBBS too
You'd think Trekkers would be more enlightened as well.

5. the dc boards drive me nuts. Poorly moderated.
There was one guy on the Superman board who would say all sorts of horrible things and get away with it. cswtriumphant or something like that? Horrible horrible human being.

Kilgore Trout was another one.

I moved over the Geoff Johns Comic Bloc and never looked back.

I just read the thread and it doesn't surprise me to see the "get a job" comments. Ick.

6. i wonder who Frank Miller voted for...
he seems kinda rabid right wing, almost fascist, in some of his stuff while less so in others

12. LOL! My guess is he wrote in Ron Paul.
Or maybe he voted McCain.

I've also noted the strong Libertarian bent to his themes & stories...

He used to be interesting in the 80's...

15. Oh, yeah, total right winger, IMHO ...
with some fascist leanings. Not to mention sort of a mysogynist, if you ask me.

17. Yes- and a very sexually naive brand of misogyny if you ask me.
The type that seems to comes from a guy who never gets laid.

Look to any of his comics where the "tough guy" is making his moves on the leading lady- I couldn't imagine a real person talking to a girl that way- makes me think Miller doesn't talk to too many girls one way or the other...

He used to have some pretty good stories with great character development back in the day- his newer stuff is boring to me.

18. Yeah, I agree.
Very naive and clueless. He did used to be sort of interesting and came up with some good stuff, but now that he's so blanantly weird, I can hardly read the older stuff because I can see those attitudes developing.

20. what's weird is he's married to a very talented artist
Lynn Varley's painted colors are a big part of what made his breakthru comics "Dark Knight Returns" and "Ronin" so special.

8. Seriously, what is it about comics and science fiction that draws SO many wingnuts?
I also asked this of imdb and youtube . .. you would think anything relating to modern or counter-culture, freepers would be turned off by. I think they said it's mostly kids that drink the wingnut kool-aid and they end up posting. Maybe they see Republicans as the "Party of the Rich" and they want to BE rich someday.

11. Maybe they equate comic heros with RW vigilatnes?
As a huge comic fan, I've always wondered how all the Liberal themes & messages in the majority of comics escapes these types...

13. I think it's the fantasy aspect in general . . .
. . . judging by their weird e-mails that tell these ridiculous patriotic yarns. For instance, this gem about veterans chasing protesters out of a diner and breaking out into song:

16. I know -- so much science fiction and comic stories are ...
left leaning. But, some comics fans will go through great contortions to make them into some sort of rw fantasy.

14. I posted about this in the Lounge a few days ago
To make a long story short, there's a lot of Libertarian douchebags that latch onto geek culture because it's the last place where their Randian bullshit can roam free.

19. I disagree
I know plenty of people who like sci fi and fantasy who are liberals.

However, there is a branch of sci fi that deals with libertarianism. Maybe it's that you are seeing.
