I saw a uniformed cop denied the right to vote today.

As my wife and I stood in a short line, waiting to recieve our ballots, we witnessed a local cop arguing with an election official. I heard the official tell the cop that he wasn't on the rolls. The cop said he had been living at the same address for three years, and that voting had never been a problem before. The official kept saying that the cop's name wasn't on the rolls. Then a lady came up and told the official that she could vouch for the cop, that she was his neighbor. Her plea did no good. I never found out how it was resolved, but I did notice more than a few smiles.

2. What the hell is wrong with this country?
I've never even needed to show my ID while voting. And I'm happy to say we still have our lever booths here in Northern New York.

3. No offer of a provisional ballot or anything?
Wow. I wonder if the cop knew her rights...

5. I really couldn't say. We got in during the middle of the argument.

It's possible that he was offered one and turned it down.

6. my guess would be that it seemed an unusual circumstance.

One would never expect a cop to be deleted from the voters rolls.

10. Why all these problems? I live in Oregon, we have mail in ballots
it's all on paper, fill it out, mail it back or drop it in a ballot pick up box, no lines, optical scanned, in case of a recount it's all on paper, simple to recount. We need a federal standard for voting.

11. Oregon has it right, no doubt.

Voting is such a sacred right in this country, but it is treated with indifference and contempt by people on all sides of the equation. There needs to be standardized voting methods, and I would vote for the way that Oregon does it. It is the cheap, efficient, common sense approach to exercising your right to vote.
