How soon do you think we'll get healthcare?
I know he can't do it immediately or quickly, but anyone think we might be able to get healthcare this summer?

Theres alot of stuff I want to see fixed, but healthcare is pretty far up the list of priorities.

1. As soon as we make it happen.
Congress will not do it if we do not threaten their jobs.

22. exactly. if we can't be done now
Then how on Earth could it ever be done??

We've now got a the whitehouse, the house and the senate.

If we can bailout wallstreet for 600b within a few weeks, there we should be able to fix this healthcare problem within a few months.

26. Maybe Obama should do what Edwards threaten too do to Congress.
If they don't adopt his health care plan, he will rescind theirs until they give the rest of us what they have, at the very least. Works for me!

The insurance companies and the healthcare corporations have very very very very deep pockets. They can bog this down until we're all dead. If you want health care by next summer -- start applying for residency in a civilized country, which is any of the other industrialized countries.

16. Well thats how I feel
I'm kinda shocked at the naysayers in this thread so far.

With the house, senate and whitehouse, theres no excuse to fix this.

In fact if we don't do it with in the next 2 years, its possible the opportunity may slip away again and for who knows how long.

20. I tend to agree with Winebrat.
Obama hasn't come close to pushing for National Health care. Nobody did in the primaries.

No matter how the 'liberal media' likes to paint Democratic leadership as socialists, in fact, they are way to the right of most Americans on health care and some other issues.

We will get health care only if we work like crazy to get it because the lobbyists work every day against it.

23. Government and Business..
go hand in hand. When it works right government is a bridge between society and business, where both benefit from each other. Lobbyists are not bad if they and those they are trying to influence aren't corrupt. It's not all or nothing.

24. The "old washington"? How many incumbents will still hold their seats after tonight?
Not much has changed. I'm surprised that so many people think this country is suddenly going to turn into a utopia. It's not. We still have essentially the same idiots who do nothing but consider how they're going to get re-elected once they're sworn in. Healthcare might be on the horizon, but not before the mid-term elections in 2010 and probably not before the end of Obama's first term. I'd bet on that.

It's all about saying what you need to say to get elected, then re-elected. Old Washington indeed.

25. Quite a few. But we have captured the seat that is most important.

Of course its not going to be a utopia, but I do have faith that our future is far far brighter than it was.

If what you say is true, that healthcare won't be fixed before Obama's 1st term, I'll be shocked and saddened and maybe a bit angry.

As for the midterms, I think it is critical that the high priority legislation be passed before then. Otherwise, the window might slip away (mid terms aren't usually good for the party in power)

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I'm very optimistic.

But I will remain cynical until I see actual movement in the gubmint toward a solution.

I agree though, that our future is brighter than it was, in many respects.

37. Jobs ???
I don't see this happening until the country is in a better economy and there are more jobs.

I think health care reform will involve a lot of change in the insurance companies, and they employ a LOT of people. is not the time to reform a system and put a lot of people out of jobs??????

I think that more than anything else will keep healthcare OFF the table for a while.
