The voting line in Alabama... |
|
I was sandwiched between six professional Black women who after two plus hours became good friends. We talked about past and future and looking at the one mile line we were involved in, it gave me more hope than I have had yet in this election process.
There were Repugs in line (I'll call them that as long as they refer to the "Democrat Party" but they seemed to be in the minority. There were one or two who felt that they could exert influence by speaking very loudly but those people may have bought us a couple of extra Obama voters.
I know, I'm in a very red state. But while I doubt seriosly that the state will go Obama, I'll bet that the actual count will kick the crap out of the polling data we have seen so far.
I now have more hope than I have had in a very, very long time.

1. That's so good to hear! And we need, need, need you to blue up |
|
the count to make it harder for the Repugants to shave votes, making the area look redder than it really is.
Thanks!

I was amazed at the lack of turn out at my polling place (Dothan). It was really strange.

3. McCain's been consistently polling ahead by around 25 points... |
|
...That will dissuade a lot of people on both sides from turning out.
Now, if it were a football game, THEN you'd see folks showing up.:eyes:

6. There was not a very heavy turnout at my polling place, |
|
which is in SE Huntsville (a place where McCain is pretty popular).

4. My aunt lives in Auburn-Opelika. As she was going into her |

polling place this a.m., an elderly white gentleman was coming out. He looked at her and said, "Vote Obama!" My aunt couldn't believe it.
I understand that Auburn is a relatively civilized outpost, along with Montgomery and Birmingham. Probably Tuscaloosa too (b/c of the U. of Alabama).

10. The Auburn area is different |
|
from the rest of the state, but it's still more red than blue. You have 25,000 college students there, plus there are several foreign corporations with operations in the area. I've met people from India, Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Canada, UK, and many other countries who live in work in that area.

I'm in Birmingham (city proper) and the electricity is in the air. B'ham proper is sophisticated in race relations, the suburbs not so much. At least I know my blue congressman, Artur Davis, is safe. I'd love to see my district break for Obama.

Which I believe is a bit different than the most of the state in most respect due to the space program influx of people and being called an "East Coast silicon Valley."
But this was outside of the city limits of the "big city" and I'm hoping it is indicative.
