I'm reminded today of when I registered to vote in New Orleans in 1960 |
|
I'm white and stood next to an elderly black man who was also trying to register to vote. They asked me my mother's maiden name, and asked him to interpret an obscure part of the constitution. I registered. He didn't. We've come a long way.

1. I too registered to vote in 1960 in Colorado. You had to be 21 then! |

First year I voted. Wow--sooo many years ago, so many changes in the years since then, tragedies and victories. Who could ever have anticipated the eight disastrous years of the Bush administration? Many times I've agonized over the future of my grandchildren. Today, for the first time, I feel a glimmer of hope. Let it be, let it be!
