I don't know why the voters in my county are so fucking stupid. Every single race, every single one went to a Republican. From municipal to U.S. House. (And of course McCain got the majority so thank heavens we're a small fraction of voters)

A bloody housewife with the only qualification being an endorsement from the Ronald Reagan Club in the county is taking a school board seat against a man who has taught in our school system for thirty years. He's been an assistant principal and a principal. Elementary, middle school, and high school levels. He has won teacher and administrator awards over and over again for years.

An 81 year old with a history of blatant racist comments from her city council seat is coming back after a forced term limit break and gaining more votes than a man with a history of leadership and community service. They're both being beaten by a woman whose qualification is that she attends the proper church in town.

What the fuck is in the water around here?

4. Which county? I'm from SJC and it is very red.... BUT the electoral votes are not awarded by
county. It is the state total that awards the EV.

I'm probably stuck with John Mica for the House, so I understand quite well how you are feeling.

8. Tennessee Dem crying with you....
People here never fail to vote idealogical versus self-interest. How do you reason with people who vote for the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Leprechans, Santa, Jesus, etc. ? The pain isn't being felt strongly enough here yet.

11. I'm really disappointed too.
Two counties in particular who have been true blue went for the idiot ticket. I thought the area was hurting bad enough economically to overcome their racism and preacher "recommendations". What in the freaking hell is it going to take for them to vote for their interests? :argh:

12. What really hurts is the results for Amendment 2....
7 out of 10 of my neighbors think it perfectly acceptable to deny equal rights and equal protection under the law to their fellow Americans.

I shall take some comfort that Feeney and Keller are gonzo.

I'm curious to see if the Florida House and Senate pick up some unexpected Dem seats. I know they didn't get any from around here.

9. Tonight - enjoy our shared victories
Tonight I'm ignoring my local races - my state just went for McCain, reelected the Asshole-In-Chief, Saxby Chambliss and my POS congressman Phil Gingrey was overwhelmingly reelected. I am sitting here with my family, smiling, cheering and laughing as Barack Obama racks up the electoral votes. Smile, enjoy the evening. Next week, get back to work fighting the fight on the local level. I'll be thinking of you while I get booed off the stage again while asking questions of my entirely Republican board of County Supervisors.
