I am so upset right now. Why don't people GET IT about "gay" marriage? |
|
Why do they refuse to cede the word "marriage"?
I just had a heated argument with two friends at work - good people who oppose Prop 8 here in California - who think that wanting to be allowed to call GLBT unions what they are, marriages, is why evangelicals raise such a hateful ruckus about our equal right to marriage.
They think GLBT folk should just settle on not using the word, that such a concession isn't "separate but equal". I got so upset I had to go sit in the bathroom and cry.
Interracial marriage used to be illegal. If anyone suggested a marriage like what gave us Obama couldn't be called a marriage and had to be called something else, they'd be painted as bigoted. So why do people fail to see that doing the same to GLBT folk is WRONG?

but the churches that banded together will now face my wrath. I will sit in their pews, I will read there websites, I will haunt them. If I see one thing I will report each and everyone of them to the IRS. I will never stop. My heart really wants to name those churches.

I almost bad-mouthed the churches by name. I've lost a couple of friends over this issue already.

6. Because the belief that gays can't get around gays choose to be gay |
|
With the distrust with science because that too is seen as an attack on religion, it pretty much assures that anything the medical health professionals say to contradict that belief is ignored. Remember you are dealing with the mindless masses that are unwilling to research or question their beliefs, it allows them to hang on to fears and boggy men. Even Obama had a rough time these last two years, notice Obama had very little troubles running for the senate, but when he set his sight on the white house well you saw it.

It bothers me, too. These past five months have been very bittersweet for me -- I lost the woman I would have happily called wife for life 13 years, nine months and 13 days ago... and had we been able to marry, she wouldn't have been in the place she was at the time she was, and would have lived. Knowing that marriage was legal -- a marriage that would have saved her life -- for others has been wonderful... and knowing it might get snatched away is painful.
But it's a slow process -- constitutional amendments can be overthrown, overturned or declared unconstitutional.
Baby steps. Incremental change. It's the only way we've ever changed anything and it's the only way that will work forever. But it will happen. It will. Today, most reasonable people don't even blink at a gay couple. That wasn't true 30 years ago. Tomorrow, it's a little better. Every day, it's a little better.
Don't despair yet. Polls aren't closed and it takes time to change minds.

14. NO 'marriage' is legal in any state unless the Gov't |
|
provides a certificate. 'Civil Unions' = "marriage"..............
Sooooo wrong.
I can have a $50,000 wedding in a Catholic Church...... It has no legality.
The STATE must decide whether we are a 'civil union' 'marriage'... or whatever.
Semaantics.........
