1. THIS IS IMPORTANT...MAYBE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN OBAMA WINNING!
The answer lies in the rules. Once a senate has hit a super majority status, many rules kick in, like limiting involvement of the minority party in committees, configuring an optimal incumbancy retention reelection strategy which will preclude challengers from effectively campaigning against incumbent members, and basically ensuring that if there is a majority vote on any committee, there doesn't even have to be a discussion; we can implement the will of the people on an immediate basis!
