Tonight Keith announced Obama as the 44th president of U.S. of America on msnbc. His voice choked with emotion....choking back tears as he made the announcement. That's when I realized the pivotal role Keith played in this election. I don't know how this election would have turned out without his nightly voice on the Countdown.

So thank you Keith, thank you for all you have done for democracy, for all of us, for America.....thank you from the bottom of my heart.


PS. I am still in utter shock, and overwhelmed by the overwhelming happiness I feel that I can't quite find the right words.

26. that's right--we owe them huge debts, in slightly different ways

The Daily Show and later the Colbert Report were hugely helpful both as sources of news and as outlets--they said things in a snarky funny way that could otherwise only be said through gritted teeth or tears. Jon Stewart(and DU) made me feel as though I was not alone in a strange sea of flag-waving jingoists.

But Keith... Keith was the first serious newsperson to say ENOUGH. At the time it was risky... hard to remember that now, but he stuck his neck out on his country's behalf when it wasn't necessarily popular to do so, and he made it safe for others to criticize the emperor's new clothes as well.
