Democrats take state Senate
Decades of GOP control end with narrow margins in handful of races

By IRENE JAY LIU, Capitol bureau
Last updated: 1:24 a.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2008

The single most powerful institution in the history of New York state politics has fallen: Senate Republicans have lost the majority after controlling the chamber for all but one year of the past seven decades.

Democrats seized two seats from the Republicans, picked up one vacant seat, and protected their most hotly challenged incumbent, while the GOP picked up one vacant seat and preserved two hotly contested Republican seats.

As of press time, Democrats are hold 32 seats in the state Senate, Republicans hold 28, with two seats that are too close to call.

His attempt to get this done was one of the reasons that Gov Spitzer was targetted to be brought down.

4. Bloomberg gave the state GOP $500,000 to keep control.
Must be suicidal.

Sometimes I suspect that he's not especially bright. Notwithstanding all the hype to the contrary.
