A dedication and fond memory.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 06:09 AM by formercia
I dedicate this day to Granny

A black woman, born of freed slaves in central Virginia.

None of her family could tell me how old she was as we were walking the quarter mile to her cabin in the woods where she lived alone. It seemed her home had been there forever, along the long disused byway
It was quite clear that she had spent days preparing the meal before us and I must say, it was the best meal I have ever had.
As we prepared to leave, I went to thank her for her hospitality and the fond memory that I carry still today. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes and told me that it was I she wanted to thank. She said that she though she would never live to see the day that a white man would be an honored guest in her home. She gave me a big hug and I kissed her on the cheek.
It was a very touching moment in both our lives.
That was 28 years ago and many things have changed since then but I know that today would have been a very special day for her.

This day is for you.

6. They weren't able to see this moment,
so it's only fitting that we take this moment to think of all the Granny's out there.

8. To all the Grannies
who have been holding families together for countless generations and keeping the Human Race from descending into chaos.
