I Think America Deserves Some Credit

We are the first western industrialized nation to elect a black president...We fought a war to end slavery...And good people of all colors joined together to petition Congress to end slavery's bastard brother-Jim Crow...

I was watching the returns with my best friend and surrogate dad Nate...He's not really my surrogate dad but Nate and his wife have "kind of" adopted me since my dear mom passed...He introduces me to his/our neighbors as his "white son"... He was born in 1938 in Selma, Alabama, went to segregated schools, drank from "colored only" water fountains, couldn't eat at most restaurants or lodge at most hotels so you know he has saw some real pain...He also is career military with Bronze Stars from Viet Nam and Korea... I asked him when he was a boy in Selma did he ever expect to see an African American president...His answer surprised me a little...He told me he had served his country all his life and knew a day like this would one day come...

I feel so blessed to have such friends...

May God bless and watch over my dear friends, Nate and Mary, and bless and watch over the United States Of America...

It's time to back the flag...You don't have to be a right winger to love America...

1. Considering that most western industrialized nations never had black slaves, I'm not sure how fair
of a standard that is. France has a large Franco-African and Algerian population, but Germany and Italy aren't likely to elect a Black president because--well, countries usually elect people born in their nation to lead it. Japan and Mexico have also neglected to elect Black leaders.

And I don't think we--as a nation--should be proud of fighting a war to end the racial slavery we invented. That can be a scar we bear as healed but we shouldn't pretty it up with plastic surgery. Just like every nation, certain segments of our population are cowards and others are heroes. We fight for the memory of what our heroes wanted this country to be but in order to do that we need to denounce the cowards as well.

2. Obama is half Irish, that part has been done before. Now if we elect a full blooded
American Indian for President, then... Then we will have advanced as a civilized country. As it is now, they are having trouble getting their voices heard. After all, we did steal all this land from them and commit genocide in the process.
