Sure, the governor of Connecticut is a Republican and will appoint a Republican to take his place.* But with it looking like we have less than 60 but more than 51 Dem Senators, Lieberman is irrelevant to the numbers. So having a Repub in that seat for the remainder of Lieberman's term won't really matter. My guess is Rell would appoint Chris Shays, who as Repubs go, isn't totally odious.


*Or would Connecticut have a special election to replace Lieberman? (all the better)

13. What Harry Reid should do regarding LIEberman

is to give him the opportunity to apologize for his treachery against the Democratic party after saying (in 2006?) he would support the Dem nominee. He should stand up in the Senate had admit he was wrong in supporting McCain, wrong in supporting Bush policies, and basically get down on his knees and ask the Democratic Party's forgiveness for his transgressions. Only then should he be allowed to continue to caucus with the Dems and retain any committee assignments.
