FReepers and guns?
FR thread about buying guns in time for Inauguration? :wtf:

Can't see your papers, Obama? Then U'r not welcome in my House. Lingle&Ayers 2 destroy paper trail?

Election is over for me when he demonstrates that he was eligible otherwise he is an Illegitimate President. By myself or with Freeper help I will ask the opposition candidates if they are willing to fight it out in court. Until then, a purchase of a firearm is a vote for freedom. Remember the Lodz Ghetto, for when you were a Jew there, all you prayed for was a gun.

I pray we time our purchase for Inauguration day and every anniversary after that. NRA can get on the band wagon. Every year that is the date for our mass purchase of firearms and ammunition.

I was thinking the same thing just last week.

2. Be Advised, right wingers do not have "a corner" on firearms.
 <tease!> But yes, many liberals own guns too ... we just don't make the sole reason for our existence is to own an entire armory. :eyes:

I'm a hell of a lot smarter than most people.

I defend the rights of people to own, say, and do whatever they please as long as they don't hurt anyone else. If that makes me an oddball on DU, I gladly accept the title.

That speaks volumes.

I feel that I'm just smart. And that most folks are in their own ways. But since you are "a hell of a lot smarter than most people) I guess we should all stand back in awe of your wisdom in this area.

21. I certainly don't.
"Arms" have taken on a whole new meaning since the BOR was written. Should I have a tank as your neighbor? Before you answer, I'm slightly unhinged but undiagnosed. For that matter, I may be an undiagnosed sociopath with a hankering to get back at the parent that abused me via the general populace.

We have to consider that there are nuts out there who will abuse the 2nd Amendment and steps should be taken for the common good. I've done my share of fowl hunting and am/was pretty good at it. But, after much thought have become a pacifist and no longer own a firearm. After 30 years without a firearm, I am still alive.

23. There are plenty laws regulating tank (and machine gun, grenades, ad nauseum) ownership.
There doesn't seem to be a big hue and cry to nullify them...certainly not from me or other 2A supporters I've seen posting here. Pacifism has nothing to do with hunting - and I'm still alive too after 58 years -with- them so it's pretty clear we've arrived at the same place by different roads; a pretty good thing IMO.

24. Exactly. Of course there are laws for weapons that can cause
indiscriminate violence and mayhem. And, IMHO, those laws need to be expanded.

When people can buy semi-autos that can be changed into fully autos with nothing more than a machine shop aptitude, there's a problem. As long as it's easy enough for teens to pull off a Columbine or Charles Whitman's to unload on the innocent, we have a problem.

Just as you don't know that I'm not a psychopathic killer in waiting, I don't know you either.

There have to be better rules that can be implemented.

25. Changing a semi-auto to full-auto is about the same effort as building a full-auto from scratch
And without the proper paperwork it is very illegal. Making a bomb is far, far easier.

Not to mention the fact that crimes involving LEGALLY OWNED automatic weapons are almost unheard of. Maybe we need to make it easier for people to own them.

26. Wrong. While it IS illegal,
Changing A Rugar mini-14 (earlier mods from the 70's and 80's) can be changed over with little more than a file. I've been out of guns for a while so I don't know about the later models.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:07 PM by slackmaster
You absolutely can not turn a Mini-14 into a reliable, controllable automatic rifle with just a file. I am familiar with the mechanism, and I am quite certain that what you are saying is simply not possible. The selective-fire version, the AC-556 which is made for law enforcement, has a different set of fire control parts (which the manufacturer will not sell to just anyone). A semiauto Mini-14 receiver cannot accept those parts without irreversible modifications which would require a milling machine, and would themselves render the weapon an illegal MG if done without the required paperwork.

If it was possible to do that modification casually, the BATFE would have declared the Mini-14 to be legally a machinegun anyway.

28. I think they need to be -enforced-, not expanded!
And it's not much of a jump in technical skill from modifying a semi-automatic to a full-auto weapon to manufacturing one from scratch.
If an inmate in prison can fashion a gun from a Bic pen I don't find to be incredible that a decent machinist could duplicate, essentially, an Uzi. I could come pretty close myself with decent machine tools. We rarely have the good fortune to identify psychotic sociopaths before they commit some atrocity...which is arguably bad...but we wouldn't employ that as policy even if we could...which is arguably good. Well, unless we're GWBush anyway...

12. In four years.. should we remember who these posters are, so we can
ask them if anyone cam to take their guns away? Should we ask them if they were ever whisked off to a "re-education" camp? Should we ask them if the government shut their church down? Should we ask them if they were forced into a gay marriage? I seriously want to confront them when Obama/Biden are up for re-election and ask them if they realize how f*cking insane their fears were.
