A thread in which to post the "little" victories (state & local or Congress)
I have two that I'm quite pleased about here in AZ:

1. It looks like we're going to have a DEM majority on our corporation commission! That is HUGE!!! The Dems ran as a team on a solar power platform. Our corporation commission regulates the utilities that operate in the state. This should bring a great leap forward in solar technology & other renewable sources of energy!
:woohoo:

2. My Congressman Harry Mitchell won re-election last night. He took over my district from J.D. Hayworth two years ago. The Republicans said it was a "fluke" and that Harry had a big target on his back & they were confident of winning it back. They kept banging on about how the district has a Republican majority of voters. HA HA!!
:woohoo:

Okay, what's your small victory from last night?

2. Jared Polis Congress
In what he called "a little bit of history in the making,” Jared Polis, a Boulder Internet entrepreneur, claimed victory Tuesday night in Colorado's 2nd Congressional District race.

Polis, who spent a record $5.3 million to win the Democratic primary in August, will be the first openly gay congressional representative elected from Colorado. The primary win essentially clinched victory in the Democrat-heavy district, but Polis still celebrated with a raucous crowd at the Denver Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday night.

3. In Maryland we approved early voting and slot machines
but not early voting ON slot machines

In Montgomery County, there was a referendum that would require the County Council to approve tax increases (beyond a preset limit) unanimously rather than by the approval of 7 out of 9 Council Members. That one is still too close to call.

Our Dem Rep, Chris van Hollen, won 75% to 22%

My county of a Million Citizens still has absolutely NO republican in any elected office......

Obama won my county 71.3% to 27.6%

Montgomery County also has the highest percentage (29.2%) of residents over 25 years old that hold an advanced degree.

We also have the smallest "achievement gap" of any large school system........

5. South Dakota stomped Measure 11 and...
... six years after a re-election he won by only 524 votes and 9 months after a brain hemorrhage that has left him with a severe limp and slow speech, Senator Tim Johnson pounded Mark Dykstra like a narc at a biker rally.

8. My lovely wife is now an elected official.
Our township board was split 5-2 in favor of the republicans.

After my wife an the other new members are seated that will change to a 6-1 democratic majority!

9. New York State Senate turns Democratic
Total Democratic of both houses and the Governorship!

Plus, in my district, Brian Foley defeated Cesar Trunzo, a 36-year incumbent and member of the Republican leadership, by 20 points! This is the first time Suffolk County has sent a Democratic Senator to Albany since 1902.

11. Tim Walz, MN-1
2 years ago Mr. Walz (formerly Command Sergeant Major Walz) unseated a six term Republican in the 1st district by a fairly slim margin. Last night, he beat his challenger with 63% of the vote. I think MN-1 is going to be blue for a good long while.
It gives me hope for the 6th.
