he ran outside when Obama won with just a t-shirt and pants on (30 degree weather). According to him, the vast majority of students were going crazy with happiness! Celebrating in the streets of the campus and then enmasse walking into town!!!
It was the first time he voted and he felt the power of that vote. He asked me to pick-up newspapers today for him in remembrance. I am sitting here with a huge grin on my face!!!!
Thanks to all the young people who voted! You made a huge difference, not only to the direction of our country, but to the world!!!!
:grouphug:
BTW...he also told me that during the day, a fundie preacher stood on a soap box at the school for 5 hours, renouncing homosexuality, smoking, being a Jew (we are Jewish), etc. All things that could send you to hell. Not one student took this horrible man seriously and my son told me that he (my son) challenged this man in such a way, that the man looked downright un-American. He made the fundie preacher back down. I love my kid!!!!

:toast: Good job, Mom! I'm so happy the young people are so stoked about Obama. I think he has singlehandedly created a whole new generation of political wonks who will forevermore be involved. And that's a good thing!

qvelling (yiddish term for beaming from heart and gut).
I am also so proud of all of those other kids who realize that there is something more out there than Wii and XBOx.
He has also surprised me in his choice of professions. He wants to become a history teacher and journalist. He is very excited about Obama's desire to help with tuition for those choosing teaching, as we have very little money right now to get him through 4 years. In fact, to save money, he'll be coming home here for the next semester to attend community college...it is an excellent one though! (He also misses his pussycat Jack!)

4. my daughter went out in a mob of college students, chanting |
|
through the streets--she said it was amazing and wonderful. (she lost most of her voice)
i thought: how exciting for her and all those other kids. a sense of ownership. a sense of empowerment. a sense of unity and country.

11. Maybe the fundie preacher could be sued |
|
for slander.
I believe in the first amendment too, almost to excess, but there used to be a fundie preacher who'd go to our two best state universities in Indiana and shout: "Every coed here is a whore!" Everyone would laugh at him--and I guess that was good--but I often thought maybe a student group should sue him for defamation. Maybe a Jewish group should sue this guy...?
Anyhow, good for your son! He sounds like a wonderful young man, and I especially admire his career choice.
